Barrel & chamber specs

I shoot precision rifle matches. To help keep the round count low on my match rifles I am putting together a 223 AI trainer.
I will be shooting bullets in the 75 to 80gr range. Is their any barrels or land/ Groove configuration that is more desirable than others? The heaviest bullet I will try will be the 80.5 full bore. Should I go with a 7 twist? Lastly what freebore would be best for this application.

Thank you.

For the cost of the new rifle you could just get a new high end bbl for the match rifle when the current bbl quits shooting up to snuff.

That is true. For a complete build you could have several barrels spun up. This is more about convenience.

Thanks for the replies! What is the go to Barrel for a fast twist 224? I have had good luck Krieger in the past with slower twist barrels. Is there anything better?

Thanks again.

I remember in the old Varmint Hunter magazine Steve Timm used those barrels a lot and held them in high regard. I don't see them around much but they are certainly worth taking a look at thank you.

NRA match rifles use Kreiger or Shilen in 8 twist more often than not. But any of the top brands should be fine. Cost per round is about the same between button and cut rifled, but cut seems to stay in the 10 ring a little longer at 600 than button rifled.

Convenience? Scope settings . . . but I guess after the first couple of switcheroos, the settings would be pretty much dialed in...literally and figuratively. ;):D

No switcheroo. LOL I am basically cloning my match rifle. It is an expense but it will have good barrel life and be a lot of fun to shoot.
