Barrel Break-in

I have not seen this on the site, but there a lot of entries. The .17hrm looks like a baby 308.Has anybody seen an official method of breaking in the barrel. I have a Ruger 77/17 and a Savage in the safe that I would hate to ruin in a day. Thank You for any advice, Tom

From the Lilja website:

"Although the 17 HMR and 22 WMR cartridges are not centerfire, the bullet is jacketed and the break-in is the same as for centerfire cartridges."

Thank You,Ive never owned a 22Mag,so I never looked there.Oh well,a lot of time and patches, fortunatly I've got 100M in the back yard.

I broke the barrel in on my new 17HMR just as I would a centerfire. If you want to know my method just PM me.

Not sure if my quick reply went through. Check out this site, http://17hmr.net/index.php, plenty of info on .17 shooting. Personally I don't believe the .17 needs to be broken in, per se. I've had mine for 5yrs, never did a break in and it will consistantly shoot .5-.75 moa. The first thing is to find out what ammo it likes then dial it in. Mine only likes Rem. 17gr. if I want to keep my groups tight.
