"Barrel Break-in for a Swede M96"

Ive got a Swedish M96 rifle that I intend to use in the CMP Vintage Rifle matches. The bore is in very good condition and Ive spent the past month (on and off) cleaning every last speck out of the bore.

Im going to be shooting handloads with it at 200 yards and I'ld like input on "barrel break-in" being that Ive cleaned the bore of everything a borescope has shown.

Dont know if I should just shoot away or if I SHOULD do some type of break-in with this very clean bore.

How about some input please?

Thanks,
Lester

Shoot it and see how it shoots. It has already been broken in. You may have to shoot a few rounds through it to get it coppered up a little before it will shoot. A 96 with a rough bore is the best shooting CMP rifle that I have. Try some Sierra 100 gr. HP with 48.0 gr. H4350 SC. Work up to this of course.

It is already broken in. Try the 140 gr. match bullets with any slow powder, the 100 gr. hollow points might be too short to stabilize in the 1/7.7 twist and in any case have a poor ballistic coefficient . I use the Hornady 140 gr. A Max in a similar competition, although I moly the bullets to prevent fouling from becoming a problem later in the match.

I love shooting the sierra 140s at close to minimum velocity listed in their book. It barely moves when shooting. lots of fun. ;D

before my crono broke I was getting 2350 fps and no bark at all just a bang and splat on the chicken
