Barnes TTSX 30 caliber / 180 grain bullet

I just decided to load-up some 300WSMs with the 180 grain Barnes tipped TTSX bullet. Using the load data in their latest reloading book and using the C.O.A.L for the MRX bullet at 2.825",appears to be similar design with plastic tip) the first driving band of the bullet, toward the tip) is fully exposed. Only when you seat the bullet to an O.A.L of 2.79" are all the bands fully covered by the case. The case was trimmed to 2.09" which is recommended.

Wondering if you seat the bullets with the driving band fully exposed or do you seat deeper to fully cover it up. Went to the Barnes website looking for info but did not find any. Any info here would be appreciated.

Thanks -

I may have a longer throat, but the grooves in my MRX and TTSX are exposed. They barely fit my magazine of My Predator short action. I jump the bullets about .030.

Thanks for the quick reply. What is the O.A.L of your loads.

Willam, you'll probably get the best results with the bullet about.050" off the lands. if that is too long for your magazine just seat them to fit the magazine.best of luck, treeman

Thanks for the suggestion. Have already decided to start there. Loaded up some dummy loads to see if the OAL would work at 50 thousands off the lands - no problem. They recycled through my Kimber 8400 with no problem. Also room if I want to go a bit longer. OAL is now at 2.88"with .050 off the lands which I don't see as a problem.

I talked to Barne's this morning. As we thought yesterday the bands showing or not showing has no relevancy to accuracy.
