Barnes TSX for Whitetails

Anybody have any experience with the 6mm Barnes 85 TSX? Am looking for a good bullet for Whitetails out of a 6mm BRX Savage Striker pistol with a 17" barrel. I am in WV and the deer go around 120 - 140 on average. Am looking at 200 - 300 yard shots, most closer to 200.

I use Barnes TXS bullets out of my 300 Win Mag, 30-06, and 270 Win.

I have taken many deer, mule deer) and one elk. They are a great round that retains it's weight.

However the Barnes Grenade bullets for varmints are complete crap.

They should work well in your 6MM.

I use the 80 gr Sierra single shot pistol bullet in my 6mm-225 Winchester, basically a rimed 6mmBR REM) 14 inch Contender barrel with 30 grs . Varget for 2650 fps. This bullet is very accurate and it smoked both shoulders of the only buck I have shot with it at 100 yards. This bullet was designed to operate at the velocities of the 6mmBR in a pistol. You can push the velocity a little more in your striker than I can in my contender. www.wideners.com 1-800-615-3006 Widener's has some of them Item #S7150 they are $15.50 a box of 100. I just bought two boxes Monday.
One question for you. Where do you find a place in WV where you can get 300 yards shots? Ha Ha, LOL. It has to be straight up or strait down. I use to live in Richwood and went to college in Bluefield and married a girl from Huntington.

If the tripple shock shoots well in our gun it will do well. You might also try the Swift Scirocco or Nosler Accubond both are bonded and thisk jacketed making them hold their weight.

He wants to shoot them in a 17 inch pistol barrel. You loose a lot of velocity when you have a barrel that short over a 22 or 24 inch rifle barrel. I would be concerned about having enough velocity for them to fully expand at 200 to 300 yards at the lower velocity. Same goes for those Swift Scirocco or Accubond bullets. Like I said in the upper post the 80 gr Sierra Single Shot Pistol bullet is designed to operate at the velocities that a 6mm BR can produce from a 15 inch pistol barrel. I don't know if WV has doe permits now but I hunt in NC and I use my doe permits to experiment with different bullets to see how they do. I would hate for you to have a big nice buck come out and you place a bullet where it was supposed to go and have him run off and not leave a good blood trail and you loose him because the bullet did not expand and just punch a small 6mm hole in him and the hide seal the hole. I know from the buck that I shot at 100 yards with the Sierra bullet the way that it expanded and really did a number on his vitals and broke both shoulders that this bullet will do a good job at 200 to 300 yards.

I've used the similar 100 grain TSX from my .25-06 on two mule deer now, but at 3340 fps mv. It's deadly as can be, and penetrates clear through 200 pound mule deer. A friend uses the 85 gr TSX from his 6mm Remington, on mule deer and pronghorn antelope.

I wonder if you'll get enough expansion at handgun velocity? I'd think a fast-expanding bullet like a Nosler ballistic tip or the 85 grain Sierra HPBT might be the way to go for your application. Just a thought.
