Curious, for those intended targets, why would you want to shoot Barnes over other bullets like Hornady or Berger's.I'd like to try some Barnes bullets in my new 6.5 PRC rifle. Its got an 8 twist barrel. Any suggestions on weight? Deer and maybe a coyote and paper or steel will be the main targets.
Did you consider my "seat them deeper" suggestion? These shoot best when seated way deeper than you would anticipate. Also, scrub the barrel squeaky clean before you switch to them, they don't seem to do well going back and forth to regular bullets.Tried the Barnes TSX bullets in the PRC this morning. Depressing for a lack of a better terminology. I used Staball HD powder and a Fed 210M primer in new Hornady brass with bullets seated .050 of the lands. I started with three at 59.5 and jumped a half grain to 61, 3 each. In all honesty, there's nothing good enough to give me a clue where to start and adjust. the groups are so bad its hard to tell where one started and the other stopped. Sierra 130 Game Changers were much better but not the greatest and the factory 147 grain ELD-M still shot the best with two touching and one just out, maybe a 5/8 =/- inch group. Back to the loading bench!!
sorry to hear. I would be tempted to load 4 or 5 different bullet weights and models using 'standard' loads and see if one is tighter than the others? and go from there. you may get lucky and find there is a bullet good match for the barrel. try SMK?Tried the Barnes TSX bullets in the PRC this morning. My 338 RCM jumps .22 due to mag length and shoots .5"I jump the 130 ttsx in my 300winmag close to 0.200" !!!!!!
0.050" jump is way to close to the lands to get good accuracy with them.
I would probably use the 100 gr TTSX instead of the 120 or 130, and push the 100 gr ttsx to the max.
6..5 PRC + 100 gr TTSX = FAST - FLAT SHOOTING - and use the same load for deer and coyotes.
Accurate 4350 should work good with the 100 gr TTSX as well.
According to Quickload, with a COAL of 2.800", the 100 gr TTSX and 58 gr of Accurate 4350 is close to max ( 61,700 psi according to QL ) and the same charge weight with RL-16 should produce about max pressure ( 63,500 psi )
Maximum PSI Rating for the 6.5 PRC is close to 65,000 psi.

My others love the .050 jump and shoot well under .5"
My 280AI is the only exception and prefers .020"
