Barnes 50gr. varmint grenades

Can someone help me with a starting load for this bullet in a 24" 9 twist 22BR? I just inherited over a thousand of them and not even Barnes can give me any data using a 22BR. All advice will be appreciated...

Ron

A_gamehog, thanks. I have seen this but was curious because Barnes recommends a 1:10T for these bullets. I've compared them with other 50gr bullets and they're much longer and all data I've found is using a 1:14T, they did not work well in my friend's 1:8T AR but I will give them a try this weekend. Do you thing I should jump them or let them touch the lands?

I shot these from many .223's 22-250, and they all shot well from a 9 twist. H322 in both the 22BR and .223 was the answer with CCI450's, Benchmark was a close second.
Load them to jump, I was never worried as the long for weight was a bonus with the right twist. I shot them with a DPMS 8 twist 2.260 col. they were 1/2 moa @ 200 yards with no wind. They are like shooting a Sierra 69 Match in length. 10 twist or better.
These should be in the Varmint bullet "hall of fame" along with the 53 V-max.

I have both powders and plenty of 450's. I'll be loading a bunch of them for this weekend and also some 69gr SMK's and Varget, thanks

Let us know if you get them to shoot. I like Barnes for lots of things but I never could get the VG to shoot in any rifle I tried it in. I loved the concept, but in the end I went back to a Vmax

Snert, I plan to do just that but it my not be this weekend, hopefully one day during the week. Someone threw a monkey wrench in my plans for this weekend

Well the results are in, I made to the range today and shot my 22BR. I cover two goals, one to shot the Barnes 50gr VG's and two to test the bedding job that was done to this rifle. The guy who did the bedding...only put the compound only about one inch behind the recoil lug and about 2 1/2" in front of the recoil lug. This caused a bit of an issue, it made my action flex when the action screws were torqued down and bolt dragged really bad when I tried to open or close it. So I had to loosen the action screws until the bolt operated smoothly...I was not a happy camper. But here are my results, 100 yards, 5 shot groups into 1" targets and Benchmark powder with bullets seated 0.020" off the lands
