Barnard S Action Help

I recently got Barnard S action, the remington 700 footprint one.
What i'm hearing not all triggers fit the action.
So far i have found out these fit:-
standard remington old style, don't really like, and i've got one)

Timney trigger, the pulls is very light,or very heavy, not sure)

The CG-Jackson trigger,nice but i don't want a 2 stage)

All the other triggers require modification.
I love jewels but i don't want modify one.
I was thnking i could retro fit a rifle basics trigger, with the top lever from my old remington trigger.
Any ideas ?.

You can adjust the CG trigger so that the first stage take up is eliminated. The instructions for adjusting the trigger are at the link below.

A friend of mine has the same action and he put a 40x 2oz trigger on it and it works great and i'm pretty sure no modifications required to make it work.. The only problem is finding one used.
Good luck

40X Repeater trigger group-

An OEM Rem 700 trigger group is easily modified to 40X Repeater trigger group configuration by drilling & tapping an angled #8-40tpi hole, turning coned/headless screw & installing a .140' diameter ball bearing & reinstalling the pull weight spring as both trigger groups utilize the same spring.

I looked at a Jackson trigger a few weeks ago at a gun show, the guy on the Jackson stand said 'if you your going to make the trigger, single stage you might as well save you money and buy a jewel'.
Hey i respect the man for not giving me the hard sell, and trashing other trigger makers,he nearly had a sale).

As for converting standard remington trigger into a x40 trigger, sounds a great idea Dan.
If photo's were posted how to do this,i might give it a go i know my limitations.

Does any body know about the Jar upgrade for for the remington 700, they do a kit that breaks at about 9 oz ?.
The joys of building a custom rifle aerobics for the brain.
Any ideas,thanks Guys .

I understood that the S and SM actions came with a hanger that allowed the fitment of any Rem trigger, allowing Jewel and Shilen into the equation?

Ive built a few rifles on the P action and the stock Barnard trigger unit is about the best match trigger I personally have shot.

If the Rem variant triggers are not available I suggest trying the standard Barnard unit,if it fits)

I've no idea if a P trigger will fit a S action.
A well respected benchrest shooter/writer at my club, told me he's only me has only managed to get a Remington and a Timney to fit on his project rifles. So if any body's access to triggers, this guy as.
The Barnard site says some minor gunsmithing required.

The trouble is I've been using a Jewel for about 4 years and love em,but i don't want to take a file to one.
My girlfriend as a rifle basics in a remington, and it's not a bad trigger. It would cheaper a learning curve taking a file to rifle basics, rather than a jewel.
I might just have to bit bullet, and buy a Jackson.

From the content of your post, I guess, maybe incorrectly) that you are a member of PSSA, I will be at the UK F Class comp weekend later in April, if you want to try a Barnard P with a stock Barnard trigger.

Apologies if ive guessed you location wrongly.

The Barnard trigger for the P action will not work.

The S actions were designed for Remington triggers that have been speedlocked, which decreases the striker fall.

Mac Tilton, at MT Guns, will be happy to grind down your existing trigger so it will work, $25 plus shipping. This is a job best left to those with a surface grinder.

A Jewel trigger should work, out of the box.

Jewel triggers work great on an 'S' action.......but need to be timed. The cocking pin pick up point needs to be 'adjusted'. The Australian made Davies trigger bolts straight on & works.
