Barnard Firing Pin Spring

Does anyone have a good way to change the firing pin spring on a Barnard 'P' action? Whidden sells the springs and I have spares from them, but does not offer the special tool that Barnard recommends. I was wondering if anyone has done it without that tool and could pass on any tips. Thanks.

Changing Barnard P firing pin spring

My Barnard P is 9 years old. Figure it's past time to change out the firing pin spring. Have replacement from Whidden. Not much info on the web. What I've found says I need to heat the cocking piece and set screw shown above to soften the Loctite and then screw off. I can't get the set screw...

Strange that you wrote this now. I just changed one, today. I eyeballed the tool on Barnard’s site, and made my own.
A friend of mine changed one by compressing the spring by hand, while his wife screwed the cocking piece on. Your mileage (and marriage) may vary.
