Bambi gets another coyote.

Bambi the fawn brings another one into range w/a shockwave providing the sounds this morning.
Set up about 6amish where I was 3 weeks ago and called a pair in for my pal. I have to drive the truck in the bottom land 2 track since everything else on both sides can see for a mile either way, so I have to get low as I can.
I hiked another 800 yards from the truck to the start of the gully area that has fingers from every direction.
Set Bambi & shockwave up across the gully at 74 yards, vs having it farther upwind this time and that was due to the fact I wanted the coyotes to get into the bottom and not from higher up where they can sit at a distance & decide if it "looks" right.
This spot is no 10 min set, it runs at least 17-30 min or longer every time one has popped into range.
Right at the 16 min mark I see a coyote at 700 yards on the gully top just walking into the dips, its up wind and I see it working the bottom land dry creek bed.
Its coming in, but not on a run like the last time, so I change my angle of attack and draw my sticks & Savage to my right as I know about where it will be after it comes from that finger into my gully.
I tone the sound down and yup it comes around stops on a rise, looks, comes in, but still not seeing Bambi, then it trots up the side hill and beelines for bambi when it sees it shaking.
BAM....drop it about 6 feet or so from ol bambi & the shockwave.
625 AM. time to move.
Nasty mangy female that was maybe 20 lbs if that.
This is again my Savage 6x45, McGowan bbl, 1/10" tw, 65g vmax at 3169 fps.
It already in the high 70s and Im hot.
My next set a mile from there only produced barking from some dips to far from me. 8am, 83* and Im starting to burn up & call it quits.
Driving out I see another one mouseing in a field near the ranch, I slow down but its 900 yards out and looks then walks over the hill. I run down and around a 2 track to see if I can get below it, but I fail to see it. The rancher was headed out to check cattle where I was and it busts out from my back side and yaps at us as we BS.
I go home.
The area & spot I dropped it at.

Jim,
Great story and pictures.....Thanks for sharing...I always enjoy your Coyote adventures and I needed a new one about this time....George

Guess the "dog" shooting is done for a while. Assume the grass is now high.

Did not make it out there again this year. Wife messed up with her retirement so it's again on for next year if there's enough life left in us.

Love the pictures and stories you show. Keep having fun.

Yup the grasses are a bit high, but the p-dogs have it shortened in the towns & sitting above them on a rise we can pop them all day long.
If you get this way again give me a yell & hopefully I have a good day off to set you both up on one of my personal private ranch spots that I shoot and they still keep bubbling out of the ground.

I'll show your note to Pam. She will have a "short" year in anticipation of using her little 17.

Thanks.
