Ballistic Program Help

Can anyone tell me of a ballistic program, that in addition to all of the bullet drop and trajectory information, also tells you the number of scope turret clicks, such as the # of 1/4' clicks ) to correspond with the amount of bullet drop at the various ranges. I get tired of trying to remember the click values at the various ranges, i.e., 1/4' @ 100, 1/2' at 200, etc. ) and dividing them by them number of inches in the drop.

Thanks for any help

Start thinking in MOA. Most Exterior Ballistics programs will give bullet drop and windage in MOA and most scope turrets are graduated in MOA. There's no need to do any dividing or multiplying in your head.

Don't forget, ballistics programs will give you approximate figures only. You still need to shoot actual bullets to verify.

JBM will do what your asking just use the Trajectory,Simplified) and the option is at the bottom.

If you have a I-phone or I-pod touch check this out. Its the latest and greatest. The military is field testing it as we speak. I bought it $29.99 and its worth every penny.

Paul,

Please follow Ray's advise and learn to think in MOA,Minutes of Angle) rather than inches of drop - the math will prove to be much easier particularly if you are shooting at multiple ranges and doing a lot of scope adjusting.

Even though the software mentioned is very useful for estimating necessary adjustments, you will have to shoot at many ranges to 'CALIBRATE' your turret 'Click' or marking true values.

Please refer to this prior thread Click Here. With all the modesty I can muster, please give particular attention to my post - #4 in that thread.

Whenever you start talking MOA to a guy who is used to inches and clicks, it will scare the hell out of him. But it's so simple you'll be amazed.

Here's a test. Your target is 375 yards away. Your ballistic chart says drop is 17.7' from a 100 yard zero. Quick - how many clicks is that for a scope with 1/4 ' clicks? How many clicks if your scope is 1/8 '?

Never fear. It's 4.5 MOA, with either scope. You simply dial in 4 1/2 MOA and you're there.

Try it.

Ray, take a look at the software for the i-pod touch that I posted a couple replys back. It gives you everything, inches, MOA, centimeters, mills, the hole shootin match. In my opinion its the best moble device on the market for hunters, known and unknown distance shooters. With a LRF a Kestral and this software, it takes most of the guess work out of the equation.

My Palm w/ Exbal had gone T.U. on me,Palm ralfed every time Exbal loaded), then I tried a 'smartphone' running Exbal and decided that 'smart'phones running Windows,in any form) weren't. Finally got an iPod Touch, and got both Ballistic FTE,$10) and KAC BulletFlight,$30) on it. Both have the HUD w/ rollers which is just about the coolest thing ever ;) Ballistic does more, and is more of a full-fledged suite for comparing and playing 'what if'. Bulletflight is stone simple and *works*, and is,IMHO) less fussy to set up. Just wish it showed the wind in half-hour increments instead of whole hour, but in reality its probably close enough given the 'fuzziness' of down range wind guesstimations anyways.

I can barely figure out how to use the Internet and you think I could operate a Palm w/Exbal, whatever that is.

Warning. Don't use your trigger finger to run the programs. Ever heard of 'I Pod Thumb' and 'Cell Phone Elbow'?

Ray,

It's dang near idiot-proof,only because the universe keeps coming up with improved idiots on a daily basis) Once you have the values entered, you select the cartridge/caliber you want to use by scrolling through and selecting it. Then you touch the button labeled 'Calculate Simple'. The 'HUD' comes up with three rollers, look like slot machine rollers). Flick the left roller til it reads the desired yardage, flick the middle one til it reads the desired wind speed, and the one on the right for wind angle. It spits out your elevation and windage correction,or hold offs) in clicks, inches, mils, MOA, etc. Adjust your scope turrets to match, and pull the trigger. Simple. And you can listen to your iTunes in the meantime
