Badger State Buck

timeout

Silver $$ Contributor
Here are some pics of an 8 pointer I shot yesterday with my .243, 100 gr. Nosler Partitions, 175 yards. First shot lungs, second was heart and down he went. 17" spread, 10 1/2" tines and good mass. My brother also got an 8 point with 17" spread yesterday. Not as much tine or mass, but nice. We had a great time joshing over whose buck was bigger. Brother's wife said if I would buy a bigger truck, mine wouldn't look so large ;D Anyway, here are the photos. I need to get going, last day of the regular season today. Also, this is my 3rd buck of the gun season this year. My wife is 2 for 3 on does. The first one was quite small and running straight away from her at a rangefinder (after the shot) 181 yards. She hit it right up the bung hole with her .223 and Nosler Partitions. It dropped immediately. I sure don't want her shooting at me!

Nice buck and nicer story.

Cold. It makes me cold just thinking of those temperature and you probably had a warm season so far.

That is a mounter in my opinion. Here in ny state it would be a monster, good shooting as .243 is a soft spot in my heart.

Timeout, what kind of expansion did you get with that 6mm Partition on that ribcage shot?

Zapped a broadside deer at just shy of 300yds using a 243Win about 20yrs ago with that very same bullet. Dead center through the lungs and had an exit about dime-sized. The deer covered 100yds in a field, but died sure as can be.

My Buffalo County WI hunt starts next Sunday and I am pumped :)

Thanks Guys! Deer shot in Southern WI. Monroe area. I took two Partition slugs out of a nice buck that did not exit. One went through a front shoulder and really blew up the shoulder. Another smaller buck hit in the front shoulder on the run was dealt serious damage, also with the .243 Nosler Partiton. He did not go far. I did not find that bullet. I will weigh the two I found and see what the weight retention was. I shot one other buck on the run with my 25-06 using 115 gr. Berger hunting VLD's. He was close range, maybe 30 yards. I hit the rib cage a little far back, but he only made it 10 yards max. There was an exit hole golf ball size or a little bigger. Just got finished skinning and boning 3 deer. I'm going to call it a day.
