Bad timing for a coyote.

My dog followed my neighbor home the other day. I told him she would come home on her own. After a half hour I decided to go get her. Walked out to my atv and saw this one in with my horses. I went to my reloading room and got my 223. Shot it while it was trotting at 150 yards. With a 50 grain Zmax.

Edit. The Zmax left no exit wound. I did not see the entrance wound either but did not look hard. It was hit on the side showing in the picture. It went down in place wiggled around got up and ran ten yards. Then piled up and never twitched.

Oh, I went to the neighbors and she was acting like she belonged there. I pulled in and called her. She came up and I said let's go home. I stopped to shut his gate and she went sailing by me towards home. I get home and guess where she was..? If you guessed at home you would be wrong. I swear this dog will not sit still for a second. Any way I had parked my atv and went inside giving her a few more minutes to show up. Normally she checks in on me every 10 minutes when she is outside and I am out as well. After a few minutes I told the wife I guess I will go find her again. I got on the atv and she was behind me when I started it. I told her to get inside, and she went to the house. She is a 7 year old German Shorthaired Pointer. My wife is always afraid a bear "has got her" when she wonders off. But once she gets a scent in her nose she won't stop. I watched her check a meadow lark this summer while I was brush hogging.

They truly are our best friends. Excellent kill on the coyote.

Funny thing a couple Game Wardens stopped by a week ago. They wanted some info on a neighbor. Any way we got to talking about wolves. They mention they are moving into the area every so often and one was hit by a vehicle recently. He said they don't seem to last long in this area. I told him it was probably the arid climate. lol.. They laughed as well.

The modern varmint bullets are unbelievable on yotes. I shot one with 95 vmax out of a creedmoor at 100 yds. Folded stone dead. Absolutely no exit hole. When I picked him up and sounded like shaking a soup can.

This one snuck in behind me this morning trying to wind me. Little did he know my buddy was down wind just in case. I saw him, he had just winded me then my buddy put him to sleep. 25yd 12ga shot.

My Dad introduced one to a 22-250 the other day. His cows were calving when he checked on them. 3 coyotes were milling around his cows. They were already eating a newborn calf. He got one of em before they ran off. Ive heard people say coyotes wont kill calves. Thats a crock. Doug

Thanks for the heads up on the powder. I don't shoot Quigley, I just don't have any interest in black powder and my eye sight after several eye operations won't allow it any way.
