fdshuster: checked my cleaning rod and i can remove the jag and it's adaptor exposing a male tip that has a flat end and contacts the bullet's tip precisely...a dewey rod. thanks for the mention of the drop rod as i have a brass one and just didn't think to take it, probably because it's the only one i have. i'll get another and take it along. because so many things can go kaput, when i go ghog hunting i take 3-6 guns and have never run out...yet.

i just go to a craft shop like AC Moore and pick up a long dowel stick for a dollar or so.
