bad brass?

Been trying to reload some lapua brass for a 6br.They are not forming to the chamber like it should.Loading with 29.3 grs of vv n135,70 gr smk, lapua brass.Brass was new when I started, I've loaded 15 rounds 3 times each and none of them formed.Lot # on brass is hadn't heard abuot that lot being bad.Sent the gun back to factory to get it checked out.Factory could not find any defects with gun.Right now only thing sealing the breach is the bolt face.

Is this a 6br or a improved version?...what is the neck diameter, what does the soot print look like on the neck?

QuickLOAD shows your load as 36940 PSI. It would seem to be way under pressure. I don't think you can get enough N135 in that case to perform properly. That would even be a light load if it were N133 but at least it would be up above 46 KSI. Consult a loading manual for 70 grain starting loads and work up from there.

I use 33.5gr N135 behind the 70gr SMK in my 6mm BR, it works great.

you should try the 68gr Berger match bullet, I find it to be much better in my BR than the SMK.

Try this, buy a pound of h322 and start with 27.0 grains and the 70 grain bullet. Problem solved. Keep in mind to check with the sierra manual as this load works in my rifle and may be to hot for yours. What book did you get that load from originally? I seem to remember that the VV manual had some big mistakes in it and they published a warning. It may have nothing to do with the 6br loading, but I would use the latest sierra manual whan working with their bullets.
KEVIN THOMAS PLEASE CHIME IN.

Loaded 32grs of H3031,had to adjust my dies a bit,got things shooting clean and sealing the breach now.wanted to say thank for the help fellars: Blinky

The Vihtavuori website give the loads for a 70 gr. bullet and V135 as 29.0 - 33.0 grains. Shoot a few working up in 0.3 grain increments from 29.3 and see if it gets better. Watch for signs of pressure.

The website is off line now for an update. I couldn't get on the website to verify the powder charge range. I had it in my handwritten notes. I have shot 70 gr. Sierra HPBT in my 6BR with 32.0 grs of V135 without signs of pressure. I have never gone higher.

blinky,
I've always used 31 grs of N133 pushing a 68 Gr Barts Bullets all in Lapua 6mm brass and never a problem. Just something to consider.

I tried 32.5grs of n135.shot good but the 3031 was better and cleaner in gun.believeI;m going to stay with it for now and just fine tune.
