Backyard Squirrel Photos

We used to have a momma and her babies we feed all the time in the city... We now live out in the country and the owls keep the numbers down but we have one oak tree that they have little ones every year... I can sit and watch the young ones play for hours...

Squirrels. They can be pesky little critters. Mom thought it was cute to leave out peanut butter on plastic spoons. The buggers would hold the spoons in their mitts and consume gobs of peanut butter. Word got out and hordes showed up to feast. It was a bit much to deal with. Dear old Mom had a playful streak in her. She laced the peanut butter with vodka and repeated the process. Drunk squirrels were falling out of the trees right and left. Soon the hordes of drunk squirrels became hungover squirrels and were "less than energetic." Despite their itty bitty brains, they seemed to learn that the wild rodent parties came with a cost and they vanished.

There were 4 or 5 babies in the den tree 30 yards from the house again this year. Cheap entertainment.

My wife feeds 4 of them twice a day . One of them will almost come in the house when she opens the back door. I told her she would have a time catching him if she lets him in and he might end up not being her friend.
We had a few that would eat out of our hand when we were out in the yard. Super cute, until they chewed a hole right through the wall and ended up in the house. The inside wall panel was 3/4" tongue and groove spruce!
Three different squirrels made it in before we got all the holes plugged up.
NOT CUTE!
My daughters were a little traumatized by squirrels indoors, now they are the first ones to run for the pellet gun if they see one hanging around the house.

Yeah I only feed em and sometimes photograph too. Someone asked me once why I fed them so much they were well fed and kinda chunky going into winter. I simply said, never know when the big one will hit and we gotta get fresh meat somewhere. Be prepared...

I have a target made from this where there's a head shot and two... well you know, apply points as you see fit.

Had one chew through the connector hose on our bbq grill. Went to light the burner and the bottom erupted in flames. Had to stick my hand in to it to shut off the valve. I see any near it now, they succumb to lead poisoning.
