Backyard Bullet Trap

I like everything shown here. Thanks guys.
However, afret has that same white stuff all over the ground as we do here. That miserable scourge is cold wet and dangerous to walk on:mad: but it is a nice setup on the porch. dblnut has the right idea. I would put some ar500 out there and laugh at every snow storm:D

My trap is a post & plywood wall 6' tall, 6' wide and 3' deep that is filled with sand. Haven't had a single pass through!

Ive been using 30 gallon plastic drums as containment for bullets and fragments. There is little as good as dry sand to catch and stop bullets. Drums are maybe 20" in diameter and they nicely sop 300 gr 375 Ruger Full Patch bullets. About a half box of them have been caught by one barrel. Would be more but frankly 300gr @2750 is a lot of fun in small doseso_O. Damp sand on the other hand is not so good since the bullet tracks remain and you loose a lot of depth because of that.

I use a stack of truck tires. The tire grabs the bullet jacket, pulling it off and fragmenting. The fragments don't make it out the back of the tire. Car tires work, but the stack has to be 3 tires deep, and don't last as long.

Here’s a picture of the “shooting shanty”, and a picture of a laser cut sign for it, the sign was a Christmas gift from her She’s pretty good about my shooting addiction

Nice! If you paint your targets bright white or orange, they would be easier to see. I use florescent orange on my small metal targets.

The grey is actually industrial grade primer, so we just painted everything to start. I liked it so much I decided to leave it alone. I’m sure the target color will change several times depending on what’s on hand at the time.

About 15 years ago I cut the top out of a plastic 55 gallon drum. I filled the bottom with about 6” of sand. I put a piece of AR500 inside. The bottom of the AR500 was at the back and I leaned the top forward. When I shoot the barrel the lead splatter goes mostly into the sand so I can reclaim the lead.
