Back To The Ohio Bean Fields

Again this season Nomad47 was gracious enough to invite me to hunt with him. I arrived at his motorhome right around 9 AM. We loaded up our gear and headed out. A little rain drove us from out first set, but by the time 7 PM and a some more rain, we'd put on a full day of hogging. I managed to get five for the day (doubled my total for the season so far) two at 165 yds, two at 265 yds and one at 235 yds. One of the 265 yarders was with Bill's 6 SLR. The others were with my T/C Venture in 243. Here's the damage.

Thanks again Bill. Hope to see you again on our next visit back to Ohio!

You're very welcome, Doug. IIRC, the fourth photo down was my rifle and shows the damage a 105 AMax can do. Oh, and you shot this rifle (6XC barrel screwed on).

Dogbone....

Glad "Bill, the retired nomad" was able to take you out. I'm still struggling with my 223 scope issues, and all I've been able to go g-hog hunting with lately is my 17hmr. I got my first g-hog ever a few days ago.

The little 17hmr just left a little blood on the side of it's head....about the size of a nickle. Nothing like splaying them apart like in your pictures!

What's up with Photobucket? They flagged two of the photos and now they're no longer visible. That never happened in the past. Wonder if there's another site we can use that won't mess with our stuff?

Oops! Sorry about the mis-identification on the barrel Bill. Forget to mention, that thing shoots like a machine!! It's an amazing setup!!! It's no wonder you rarely miss.

look at that hole!

Yeah, never saw so much blood come from a groundhog!

Photobucket takes out the ones with the guts hanging out and leaves the one with all the blood. Wonder what their criteria is anyway?

When I lived in GH country I used Hornady SX bullets in a 222. They never showed any sign of being hit outside Of falling down, the ones lying down just "dusted". There was no visible entrance or exit, but when you picked them up they felt like a plastic bag full of wet chopped sponges. Very neat to handle when getting them out of the fields.
They are impressive kills though, that first one did drain a lot.
