B&C Stock Work

Guys I have a B&C Alaskan stock that I will be using for hunting not BR target shooting.
The stock has a raised section at the end of the forearm that the barrel sits on in the barrel channel.
So my question is should I remove this so the barrel is free floated or shoot it first and see how it shoots.
Why would they put this raised section in the barrel channel.???

They put that raised are in the stock for a bit of upward tension to supposedly help accuracy---NOT !!!!!

It is there for the same reason that factory rifles have it in some models, to stabilize the barreled action in a stock that is not bedded. Not everyone who buys a stock beds the action. The best way to go is to float the barrel and then bed the action. I have seen action bedding that was so poor that removing the barrel pressure point would make the rifle shoot worse...until it was bedded. Factory rifles can have the same situation because their price points do not generally allow for the cost of a proper action bedding job.

Some rifles with lighter sporter profiled barrels benefit from this pressure point. If you don't want it, just sand it out.

Those that leave it there for their light barrels just sand it down a little in order to tune the barrel.


There's a little for everyone with this "bump".

That stock was designed for a #1 mtn rifle taper barrel to be a lightweight sheep rifle. The small pencil barrels like those bumps to keep them from whipping so bad
