I was looking at some new Savage Axis rifle both short and long actions. It seems they changed the barrel but system. From a smooth but to the regular style nut. Have they changed something in the rifles?

I was looking at a varmint barrel 243 for 289.

I love savage , but recently have been testing the Rem 783 . It's got a lot going for it , it takes savage barrels , super easy open after shooting , short striker fall ( firing pin ) 90 deg sear , a full tang = 3 R&D safety lug , accu trig copy , better plastic stock with contoured pillars .
I've got 10 axis , all modified , 7,8 110 ,10 , all modified and now 4 rem 783 .
