Autotrickler duty / tax / tariffs?

I bought a simple little “heavy scale plate” for the SuperTrickler direct from them, $49 plus $20 S&H. Couple days later I got hit with an “import duties” fee of $48(!!) from ups! Wtf. No fees at all on an AutoTrickler OR scale, both from Canada but a 100% fee on a small $49 part from Denmark??

I paid it. Begrudgingly.

Well - I'd like to tell you your tax money will be well spent..... At least it won't be going to "Feed The Children"

Never, ever, use UPS or Fedex or DHL for cross border shipments, unless you absolutely have to, they charge a min brokerage fee, then a percentage of value on top. Can't speak to USPS as to what they chg, but from US to Cda via USPS/Cda Post is only 10.00 for brokerage, then they charge GST or duty if applicable, which the duty usually isn't, at least on small stuff. They missed 6 of 8 boxes of made in China decoys out of the US, dinged me 14.00/box on two of them. They miss GST most of the time too. I heard there is a crackdown happening in CBSA/Cda Post about not collecting GST, we'll see, have one coming from Brownell's this month, maybe, if it ever clears customs ( pretty sure CBSA has had an "inspect Brownell's" order on them for a few yrs now). Then next month hopefully a stock, which is made in Norway, from EuroOptics, we'll see what happens on that one, waiting for export permit from Commerce, be a month on Boxing day.
