Atterbury disappointment

i'm sure the some of the OHNG personnel feels the same way about us being at Perry. you're going to have this but our civilian ignorance to the situation keeps us coming back.
 
we have spent years dancing with the Air force and National Guard on our home range. We have a pretty good relationship with them now but accommodating civilians is extra work for any .mil personnel . Who wants extra work? If it wasn't required by law that civilians can use .mil ranges I doubt any civilians would be on military or state run ranges.

I think you will find that the military at Camp Perry does in fact look forward to the matches. Having Camp Perry as your duty station is of the most desirable in all of Ohio. That's what CP in for and that's shooting. CP is owned by the people of Ohio and it's considered sacred ground.

I don't get the "our home range" and the statement about dancing with the ANG and the ARNG. I was not aware of CP ever being someones home range, unless you were ANG / ARNG. If you are referring to a home range in TN then things are assuredly different.

The situation since Iraq invaded
Kuwait and 9-11 has caused the military to hold priority over the use of the ranges. Our troops should come first, and for the last ~18 years it's been that way. Those that have shot at CP know fully well that using the ranges require the western basin to be monitored. Blame that on the Walleye fishermen who figure they will cease fire at every whim of the fishermen. Two soldiers died trying to patrol the waters at CP. Public use of the ranges is almost non-existent and always has been.

I'm not so sure it's law that civilians must be allowed to use military ranges. I believe it's at the Commanders discretion. I could be wrong. Either way Camp Perry is different from Federal Military installations.

CP is not my home range. We have a good relationship with our .mil counterparts now, but its not always been that way.
 
I just returned home from the long range Nationals at Atterbury. The matches were very well run. We were off the range by 2pm most days. But OMG it was hot, I barely made it through. I shot well for me but conditions were so good that my mid 190 scores left me well down from the leaders. I really missed commercial row. It was a great match but didn’t feel like the “Nationals” to me. They really need to do some grading of the areas between the lines. I nearly fell several times. The parking almost destroyed the underside of my car. The NRA and the CMP need to kiss and make up and start thinking about the shooters. Is Atterbury or the CMP long range matches at Perry considered “the” Nationals? I’m so tired and exhausted from the heat at Atterbury that I will skip the CMP long range matches.
