Attention! Rare shotgun recovered!

This was posted on a Tennessee hunting forum I'm a member at. This man is a detective in Knoxville and posted about having recovered this rare Ithaca shotgun that had been reported stolen in 1972. If anyone knows anything about this gun or someone who may have owned it or knows who may have owned it please contact this man.

"I'm a Detective in Knoxville and have recovered a very rare 1933 Ithaca 28ga. Shotgun. This gun maybe 1 of 3 examples in existence according to the collector/broker that shipped it. Only 44 were ever made. I know that it was reported stolen in Nashville in 1972 but Nashville Metro Police said they don't have archives that old.I know it's a long shot but if anyone knows of someone who was a Victim of the theft of this gun I'd really appreciate you having them call me. I'm a gun enthusiast just as many of you are and know if this belong to my family I'd want it back.My goal is to get it back to its rightful owner or descendants. "

Respectfully, Det. David Ogle, AKA Yotekiller011.

Doesn't the crime report show the name of the person filing the report with LE ?
They apparently didn't have the records from that far back for some reason.

Surely one of the government

agencies would still have something, i.e. N.C.I.C. as LE does forward stolen firearms to others. Or at least they did in my day in LE.

I have no idea, just going from what the Knoxville detective has posted.

I know I know but try the ATF. They recovered an AR that had been stolen from me three years before and they got it back to me.

No
The gun was probably entered in NCIC as stolen when that was created . Tge never made is generally not listed in NCIC. The original offense report from back then was handwritten and maybe entered into microfilm/fish when things were getting computerized. Now we’re finding that microfilm/fish does degrade over time and a lot of the microfilm/ fish was done in a hurry by a blind idiot. Also, the microfilm/ fish has been moved twice now, so stuff gets displaced and now the microfilm reader is broken.
I’m dealing with this right now on a much more serious case from the 80’s
