Attempted my first shooting bench

Been sick of having to shoot off my tripod due to all the tall grass in the pasture. Personally prefer prone but it's because most benches I've ever used are just no built for people my size ( I'm 5'1" so stuff built/made for average size people usually isn't comfortable or fist me at all) so decided to try and build a myself a shop in bench that fits me :D
More of a welder then a carpenter but after looking at a few pictures taking some measurements of myself sitting came up with this. Ended up having to cut 3" off the bottom because it was too tall but its pretty comfortable now. A bit rusty so my cuts where a bit off .
Would have been nice if I had put the legs on the right way the first time but hay lube and learn lol. Think I'll try and add some wheels to it tomorrow

Here's another thought when you have your bench done. If you also like to shoot prone, build yourself a raised prone platform. We have a couple at the club. They put prone shooters' rifles at the same height as bench shooters.

Nicely done.
I prefer a height adjustable seat.
Also I found 3 legs eliminate all wobble.
I’ve built a few and my goal in the end was to have it easily portable.

Nice job! I need to build one for the shack. Treated lumber is usually of lesser quality so I only use it where it will be buried or in constant contact with wet soil. Untreated lumber will last a long time if left alone.

Three legs, two front and one center rear would be stable on any surface and not rock
Yup correct ! My Portable Bench has, 2 Legs ( plastic capped, 2 x 6's ) forming an "A" BRACED up front and an Upside Down, T using, 1 1/4 inch, dia. Pipe, make for a VERY Stable "Portable" Bench at around, 40 ish, lbs.
Sage Rats,.. Hate it and my Braked .22-250 with, 50 gr V-Maxes @ 3,550 FPS, enable Me to SEE,. "the Splody" !
I've had NO issues, shooting group's, down into, the 2's and 3's with, My 6 XC, on this, Bench.
Getting 5 shot group's into, the 3's and 4's with, my Factory, 6.5 Creed. Tikka.

I can't post Photo's,.. as,.. I'm not much of, a Tekkie,.. Sorry !
I tried to describe, How I made it using, 2, 2 x 6's, "A shaped" and Braced W/ Steel Bracket ( Looks Like, the Letter A ) with, Plastic "L shaped" Footings for setting wood bottoms on, Mud / Snow.
An, Upside Down "T" of, 1 1/4 inch Pipe, That's, "threaded" into a ROUND, Threaded, "Bracket", ( Found, in Plumbing Dept. of Home Depot ) that's Bolted to the bottom of the Table's Top. The Top is, a Shaped Piece of OSB or Plywood about, 3/4 of an inch Thick ( Topped with, THIN Outdoor Carpet ) and cut to fit, a Right or, Left Handed Shooter.
YouTube has several Versions and building instructions of,.. 3 legged, A Frame, shooting, Rests.
Getting the Correct Angle of, the A shaped "Legs" was "Hit & Miss" and I had to Play with it, a Bit.
Then I Bolted / Gorrilla Glued ( Original, Gorilla Glue ! Used, WET ),. all Down After Bolting a 2 x 6 "Fin" along the Bottom side of, the Table Top. Bolt It, tight up to, the A frame Legs for, the Bottom and 2nd, Leg, "Brace".
I Sketched it Out first then, Modified, the Legs angles and T Brace/ Fin on Bottom as, I went.
Good Luck !

Number of legs Not Important. LOL As long as they are set if 800+ pounds of Concrete. Definitely don't want seat attached to bench. My retirement present to myself. Four years ago, and still solid as a ROCK. Second picture of my backstop. Also, a retirement present to myself. MAN, I love retirement:)

Portable bench (LOL) in last picture. Use a 5-gallon dove hunt bucket for the bench with it. A little heavier than most folks like but it is Solid for sure.

Safe shooting
Doug
