Attachment For Stock To Ride in Rear Bag?

Does anyone make an attachment for the rear of a stock, maybe something that screws into the rear sling stud hole, that flattens out the bottom of the rear of the stock and allows straight tracking in a rear bag?

I've seen them for AR's, but not for bolt guns. It's a bolt action rifle with the standard angle from the grip to the bottom of the recoil pad.

If nobody else has a "ready made" one, it might be worth a call to EGW to see if they will make one. They make most of what they sell, it may not be too much trouble for them to modify their AR15 rear one to attach in a sling stud hole (similar to their front bag rider) vs. the AR's mounting via rear butt pad threaded screw hole. Just a thought, hope it makes sense.

Thanks for the suggestion Rick. I'll let this post ride for awhile, to see if in fact, anyone makes one already.

Then I'll contact them to check it out. I'm entertaining all options right now.

I don't know of one on the market currently... I've seen a few variations out there that were meant to attache to an adjustable buttplate; the design that Nomad shows has the benefit of not raising the center of gravity of the gun quite as much.

I've been thinking about something along those lines myself... might be time to pull out the table saw and make myself a prototype to the size/shape that I have in mind. Thing is, me personally I don't want to get rid of *all* of the taper... just reduce it. I still want a little bit for fine-tuning elevation (F/TR).

Bill, I like that! Thank you. I just so happens I have some schedual 40 pvc pipe in the garage. 3/4" and 1/2". Which size did you use?

I figured I was going to have to make something out of a big wooden dowel, or something like that. Now the wheels are turning. I'll work on it tomorrow.

yukonal, I think it was 3/4". I think you will know which size you want to use as soon as you hold a piece up next to the stock.

queen_stick, if you are referring to the lace on cheek piece - no, it is not adjustable. I have since removed it and gone with this - which is the same stock and for sale, btw.

This is my F/tr gun. Any ideas on how to modify this stock? Notice how the bottom of the handle hangs over the bag. I can't get my hand in there to squeeze the bag slightly to make veritcal adjustments. I am seriously thinking about cutting the bottom of the handle off straight with the cut out.

Jsthntn,

Before you cut the handle, think about filling the gap in the bottom of the stock. A 2 part plastic weld type putty may be the answer. You can rough shape the part as you mix the putty and when it dries you can sand it to fit and test. If you like it, then drill, tap and attach.

Once you cut, it is difficult to go back.

Cutting the handle off will be a last resort thing. Thought about trying to find a piece of aluminum and having a smith cut it to size with a mill and epoxy or screw it to the stock similar to what Nomad did.

Use a smaller bag. Leave the stock as-is.
