Attaching a mirage shield

What type of adhesive is commonly used to attach the Velcro pads on a bbl for a shield? At some point ( when it won't shoot 1/4 moa) I will remove the pads from the blued bbl and I don't want to damage the bluing. I did a search and found a post saying high temp rtv will hold these on a hot bbl , but thought perhaps someone here could give me some advice on what to, and what not to use in my case.

Self-adhering Velcro works fine. Rubbing alcohol works fine to remove it.

Try this one from Champion Shooters if you're concerned about blueing. Was common among sling shooters for a while. I've used one for the last 3 years in F Class FTR and they work very well. I use 3 pony tail bands (got from my wife stuff) you can get at any Walgreens, CVS or Walmart to hold them on the barrel. Never have to worry with wind blowing them off or recoil effecting them.

You already have your answer, The high temp RV velco. and to remove the glue after your done just use some type of oil and it comes right off, no damage to barrel.

Get the industrial strength velcro , from Walmart , usually in the sewing department.... This stuff is strong strong strong and I use it to attach shotgun cards to the side of my buckshot guns. , I had a piece come un stuck a little and it didn't effect the paint on the Mossberg receiver when I replaced it , it's under a lot of tension with the ends of the shot cards pulling up on it all the time trying to curl up.... It would hold what your doing very very well , to each their own but if the barrels shot out it's a tomato stake anymore...

Instead of Velcro I use rear earth magnets glued to the mirage shield. I was surprised on how well they stick to a stainless barrel. So much easier to slide under the scope and removing is so much easier than Velcro. I will never go back. The ones I use are about 1/4” round and can be found at Home Depot, Walmart or many other stores.

Mike, I really like this Magnet idea, just tried it and your right it worked pretty good. They do slid a little bit, do they slid off to the side of the barrel after a couple of shots or stay put. I also would attach a small layer of elec tape on the bottom of the magnet so as not to scratch the barrel while installing and removing, what do you think about that?

I actually did what you suggested with the electrical tape. I run three magnets on my shield and the gun weighs 21.5 lbs. so very little recoil. My shade doesn’t move around when firing. Same thing with my 18 lb 6 mm br.

Speaking of Fan's, anyone have a good lead on a really good fan that will put enough air out of it using a USB port?

Ryobi tools makes a 18v battery powered fan (about 1 foot square) that works well at the shooting bench. Cost is under $80 at Home Depot.

I found a small fan with built in battery which uses USB port for charging. Tried using it for one of those close to 100 degree and humid days shooting f- class. The wind blowing in my face from the fan made me miss what the wind was really doing on the line and cost me a couple 9’s. Won’t do that again.

How much neodymium magnet is to much here? I want it to hold, but not to the point that I'm ripping them loose from the shade when trying to remove it. I've been looking at 8mmx2mm , 10mmx2mm, even looked at 1/4" ball magnets because I have a flute centered down the top of the bbl. I'm leaning towards trying the 10mm x 2mm. That one should lay across the flats of the top flute, but will it be strong enough?

When I take mine off I kind of slide it off by pulling it sideways and out from under the scope shade instead of pulling upwards. Goes on and off pretty easy.

Mike what fan were you using, I am looking for something that will cool me on hot days while tuning my rifle. F- class

The magnets will affect the gyroscopic spin of the bullet....

No....BUT...induced voltage from the rotating copper jacket in the magnetic field triggering an event counter/timer.....Hmmmm
