Atlas Bipod

I have always used Harris bipods, they have been ok. I find it a little hard to load them consistently due to the stiff legs. The Atlas has some play in the legs that looks like it would make loading the bipod easier and allow it to recoil without the legs skidding. Anyone use one? Worth the money?

They are nice and well made. Worth the money ? No. I think that one of my higher end harris pods is more stable for 1/3 the cost . Dont get me wrong , they are nice , just not that nice

I've got a couple of Atlas bipods, and love how compact & sturdy they are; also appreciate the lack of protrusions that can hang up on the inside of my drag bags while putting a rifle into or removing one from them. The fact that they're made here in Kansas doesn't hurt, either. I think they're a great product.

I've also got a couple of Harris bipods with KMW Pod-loks installed, and shoot just as well with them as I do with the Atlas. So is the Atlas worth the extra expense? Well, if they were less expensive, I'd probably own another one or two of them, but since style points don't show up in match results, I get by just fine with the Harris - except when dealing with getting rifles with them in & out of drag bags.

Always wanted one but they're too much $'s for me. Have used Harris ever since they 1st came out and they're great for my apps. Just recently started buying the el cheapo Leapers for various 22's and lighter-kicking rigs and they work fine too. Mainly bought them for "findability" in my gun room, as I could never find one when I needed it quick. Now have about 10 bipods floating around here and there.

I've never used the Atlas myself, but the guys I know who have this design love it. An alternative I do have experience of and might be worth your consideration is the locking version of the pan & tilt Versa-Pod a folding type whose origins go all the way back to the 1930 Brit BREN light machinegun. With thumbscrew locks, you can tighten it up to make it very stable while retaining a degree of leg-lean under load and using buttplate / shoulder pressure to alter the muzzle elevation in aiming. I successfully used this model with my light recoiling .223 Rem custom F/TR rifle successfully out to all distances to 1,200 yards with 90gn VLDs and never felt the loss of a true F/TR bi-pod. (308 would be a bit too much to ask though.)

If you do go down this road, ensure it's the locking model - the basic version flops around too much and twists on the mounting spigot under recoil torque with a 308.

I have an Atlas that I use on my hunting rifles. I've used a couple of different bipods for hunting and the Atlas is the best, as far as I'm concerned. Light (relative to Harris), sturdy, and easy to shoot off of.

I have several atlas's and numerous harris. I have never had a problem ""pre-loading"" a harris. the issues I have with the atlas is that you have to buy leg extensions in incremental amounts (meaning you have to screw them on or off depending) when the harris can go in a range by itself.
Just my $0.02 worth

If you want to buy an Atlas, barely used on 2 or 3 range sessions (i.e. it sat under a rifle on a benchtop, so the feet might be a little worn) , I'll sell you one less than retail for sure! 8)

I have two, and probably only "need" one. 8)

PM me if interested.
