They need to be jumped. Not talking about tiny amounts, either, but on the order of what loaded factory match ammo that is SAAMI spec, looks like, (not much body protruding). Speaking from much experience in .22; 243; .284; 300 and .50, start silly deep and come longer, until you see it worsen, then stop, not the other way around.
Sunday morning, my same RSAUM shot the following three targets.
1) Berger 195’s (those sighters started with a .284 that I pulled back and were not with this gun);
2) Hornady 190 ATips;
3) Berger 195’s again, from the original box, after the barrel was warm and could not be cooled down adequately before it was my turn again.
The conclusion is that they can blend right in score-wise with what I consider to be the most potent wind load there is, 195/rsaum, and as far as I know the smallest drift and highest attainable velocity at 1,000 yards in the game. It yields no additional points though if the wind isn’t bad, and perhaps even costs a couple. (As the velocity crossed 2,000 fps average at 1,000, at the end, the SD went down, to its lowest. I pulled the right shot on the third target but the vertical drops were because the barrel had not been adequately cooled., was acting up, and that’s just what happens fighting it.
