athlon optics

i am wondering if anyone tried this scope for 22 rimfire at 50yds on the bench, do have the talos 6x24 that i got last week, nice for the 22, but need a little more power

I had one and sold it, but that was to move up to a Sightron. The glass was better than expected for the price and the reticle is one of the best out there for bench shooting, IMO. It seemed to track well in my informal testing and the reticle wasn't canted, etc. 40x was clear and bright enough to use in full daylight at the range. The turrets weren't as mushy as I expected but they didn't line up exactly with the mark, if that is an issue. Call around and you can get a better price from most Athlon dealers. I got mine from Cameralandny and they have a good rep. I have had a few Athlons with no need to use the warranty but it seems to be as good Vortex.

I'm using an Athlon Argos BTR 10-40X56 on my 6.5 CM Savage. No idea about using it on a .22 but I originally wanted a Vortex Golden Eagle but couldn't justify spending that kind of money. My nephew owns a Golden Eagle and runs it on his rifle so I have had a chance to compare them. My opinion is that the Athlon Argos BTR is 75% of a Golden Eagle at 1/3rd the price.



Glass is good, not great but plenty good enough. Tracks fine/perfectly and my turrets are crisp and clicky and the indicator lines up. I really like mine and haven't reached it's limit.

I honestly think that if Athlon would bring a similar scope out for their Midas line with a few minor refinements, like the Midas TAC erector assembly, they would seriously damage Golden Eagle sales. I had one after the Sightron and although it was very nice, it wasn't mind blowing, just more refined. I didn't feel it was worth $1000 more than the Argos. I sold it to a good home and went back to Athlon, but at their higher end with an Ares ETR. It goes without saying that I'm a fan of their products.

I have heard a couple of guys on the 'Net saying the Athlon Argos BTR in 10-40X56 is a $1400 Golden Eagle for $400. I don't think it's quite that good (the Athlon) but it's quite impressive. I actually bought it to get the reticle which is floating dot and pretty much identical to the Golden Eagle. Love the reticle *and* the GE but simply could not swallow the price tag for the GE and got a great deal from Doug at CameraLand NY on the Athlon. Mounted it and took it to the range and I'm still smiling.

Love Vortex and Nightforce but can't spend that kind of money right now.
