Athlon Midas TAC APLR4 reticle

My apologies for being long winded here. I'm not sure how to condense this down and still explain what I'm trying to figure out. I'm looking for some input from anyone who has an Athlon Midas TAC and either an Argos BTR or Ares BTR. I have the Argos and Ares, and I'm looking to get a Midas TAC for another rifle. My Ares BTR is a Gen 1 4.5-27x50, and the Argos is a Gen 2 6-24x50. Both are MOA, and I think both have the APLR2 reticle. The problem is that regardless of what Athlon posts for specs, the reticle on the Argos is noticeably thicker/heavier than what I have in my Ares (see pics). For the money, the Argos is fine and I have no complaints about it. I've used it on prairie dogs and it works fine out to around 400yds. After that, the reticle covers enough of the pup that it's hard to use. The reticle on my Ares is much finer. I've used it out to 700 yds on prairie dogs, and it could go farther.

What I'm trying to figure out is whether the reticle in a 6-24x50 Midas TAC is like the reticle in my Ares or the reticle in my Argos. If it's like the reticle I have in my Argos it will be a waste of my money. I'd be better off spending less and getting another Argos because on the Argos, the reticle becomes unusable before the glass quality becomes an issue. If the reticle on the Midas is like my Ares, then its worth it to me to spend more money because the rifle is capable of hitting sage rats well beyond 400 yds, and I don't really need the illuminated reticle that I would gain by purchasing another Ares. Ideally, I would be able to find a shop that had a Midas TAC on the shelf and would allow me to bring one or both of my rifles in to do a side by side comparison. Unfortunately, there aren't many Athlon dealers near by and none of them have a Midas TAC on the shelf. So, if any of you have these optics, I'd love to hear what your thoughts on the subject.

Thanks,
Mark

Do you think there is a chance they could have changed the reticle ? As in went from one to another ?

Well, I don’t have an Argos but have looked through some at the range. Probably gen2's. I can’t find a spec sheet for a gen1. The reason I don't have one is as you stated, the reticle was too heavy for my liking. The spec sheet for a gen2 shows the crosshair lines subtension at .14 moa. I do have a midas tac 6-24 with the APLR4 reticle on a PCP air rifle. Line subtension is listed as .12 moa. The difference for me is noticeable. Also, the APLR4 has an open center with a dot which helps in not blocking out a target.

I think the image quality of the midas tac with the HD glass is better too. This is just what my eyes see.
