ATF delays

I do dealer transfers for locals. Most
have a CC licenses, so there is no issues. For the
ones who don't, it's delays every time for the
call ins. Its nothing but an annoyance
to discourage buyers. There is no logical reason
for the delay, because there is no additional information
for them to ck. That info is entered as it is given to the
operator, and the response is instantaneous. The lag
in response from ATF is nothing more than harassment
for the dealer. Are the Lic holders on this board having
the same experience ???? LDS

I know a local dealer and I were talking and said that folks who skip the SSN on the form always get delayed lately and those that put it down have been getting approved on the call.

For years mine have raised a "red flag" and delay whenever I buy. Evidently the fact that I have held Federal security clearances in the past causes a delay and have to be investigated...or so I'm told. I had to have individual clearances to work or inspect crews for communications systems at nuclear sites, government office locations and military facilities as well as formerly holding an FFL. That combination must look suspicious.

I have heard the same thing, it has never affected me though always goes though.

Same here, sailing Master on tugs and ships I've had background checks from the best, that includes NASA
and even the old KGB.

The more "paperwork, information" the longer the background check can take. Makes you wonder how at the border, individuals with no birth certificate, no I.D., no fingerprint info can be properly vetted. I guess that's why, since the south border opened Jan 20th, 10's of thousands of COVID carrying individuals have been flown across the country at taxpayer expense. No wonder virus cases have increased.

Hmm. I haven't heard that, nor has it ever affected me. I am usually instantly approved, and in the past I held a TS/SCI clearance. I suspect that people who have a name in common with a convicted criminal take a while.

I imagine the delays are mostly due to volume and government inefficiency.

I picked up a receiver at the LGS today. I barely had the electronic signature scribbled and I was approved. A friend that did a tour as a for real Marine sniper 30 years ago has been held up for every firearm he has ever purchased since the checks were implemented.

I had a ffl at one time and ALWAYS get held up. I've had security checks and clearances for the work I did and you would think they'd know all they need to know about me.

Having the joy of living in the now blue CO (at least 2 counties) I have the benefit of having to pay CBI (Colorado Bureau of Investigation) $10.50 for the privilege of them checking with NICS folks. In the early part of the year all checks were taking 9 days. But don't get me started.

I do transfers daily. Most of my customers are repeat numerous times. Not uncommon now for an individual to be approved instantly today and several days later delayed. Sometimes never a response. A lot of em I do online are delayed for the same person that was cleared on a fone call last week and vice versa.

At times Larry, yes. Depends on the amount of traffic they have. To few NICs examiners.
