At a loss...NO MORE!

Well, I told you it wasn't wind.
And I told you I checked my dope prior to shooting.
Turns out, I'm not crazy!

At 100yds this AM, I missed a 24" piece of paper...twice.

Went to 25yds. Hit paper was low left. Dope settings were for 100yds .

Tried to zero at 25yds but it ain't happening. Scope isn't holding zero. It moves with every shot.

So there it is. Now to tell Mama I'm buying a new scope.
Wish me luck.

Yep, I said early on it had to be scope issues if you had checked all the other varibles.

Yeah, I'll do that. But have lost confidence in this scope now.

Vortex GE

Depending on how old it is it I think it will get a new erector assembly just for sending it in for a checkup.

As I said I'm shocked and would be interested in knowing what happened to it. I've got 3 of them and have NEVER heard of a failure before. People who test their scopes annually or bi annually always report them to never not hold zero.

I'm glad you were right, with that being said I don't think I've ever seen anyone so hell bent on having a broken scope instead of considering it could have been numerous easily corrected oversights or mistakes.

To be fair, you could still be crazy… but your hunch about the scope was right. Hahaha. Did you say you’re looking at the Nightforce Comp?

Cool you got it figured out.
But, remember, it started with a great group at 100, then 'all over the place' at 500.

Sounds like the scope went bad between the 100 yard group and the shooting at 500 yards.

I'll have to go re read the other thread. I don't remember any of that.
As I recall it was cleaned and put away after a good match then it was broke next trip out

Uh oh. Maybe I have my threads confused.

ETA. Just checked. I was thinking of another thread.

I suppose a fella could crush the main tube using too much torque. Happened to me once in another life.
Vortex actually has a statement in their instructions that gives a minimum distance the rings must be from the turret housing, if you get to close it can affect the erector function. I cant remember the exact distance it may have been 1/2" or 1/4". I have seen it happen and at recommended torque specs not excessive. I'm not saying thats what happened in this instance your post just brought it to mind.

No, no, & no. Screws were torqued to 14 IP. Scope has been on rifle for 1 year without issue.20250921_175428.jpg
