I just wanted to mention a happy occurrence that points out just how good the quality often is on some of the stuff that we can easily afford these days.
I recently purchased a AR rifle which could be considered a budget model from Anderson Arms. I also purchased a cantilever one piece scope mount for it from Primary Arms, which I believe could also be considered a budget item. (50 bucks from BiMart) I mounted everything up and all was good with the Vortex scope I used. (also one of their budget models)
After using this set-up awhile, I got the urge to install a brass catcher on the rig, so I purchased one on EBay. (you guessed it -- a cheap one
) Trouble was, I didn't have enough clearance to mount the catcher bracket under the scope I was using without moving the scope mount system around. -- and I mean radically.
I ended up removing the mount and taking the scope out of it. Remounted the base backwards from where I'd had it, and replaced the scope in the mount, 180 degrees from original. Mounted the Brass catcher on the rail up front of the base, and went to re-sight the whole mess. Now -- would ya believe that I was not only on the paper, but only about an inch left of my previous POI??!! I don't know just what I'd expected, but it wasn't this good.
Pics below show the two different set-ups. jd
