Articles and books about precision handloading and LR shooting.

Hi to everyone,
I recently read "Secrets of the Houston warehouse" I found it a totally un-put-downable read. So my question is can you direct me to anymore similar articles or even books that deal with high end hand loading and precision shooting.

If you haven't had chance to read "Secrets of the Houston warehouse: you are missing so, so much.

Regards "S"

Bryan Litz has a series of books: Modern Advancements In Long Range Shooting volumes I, II, & III.

You really do need to know that a really fine shooter who was on a hot streak, who had been to the warehouse and done what was in the article there, with success, tried the same loads at an outdoor match and it was a disaster, at which point he returned to what had been winning. You might know him. His name is Speedy Gonzales.

Read this article I wrote in the Daily Bulletin:

Modern Advancements in LR Shooting, Vol. II
by Bryan Litz, $27.99 (Kindle), $44.95 (Hardcover, from AB store)

Prone and Long Range Rifle Shooting
by Nancy Tompkins, $45.00, (Hardcover, 2d Edition).

The Wind Book for Rifle Shooters
by Linda Miller & Keith Cunningham, $14.99 (Kindle), $22.99 (Hardcover).

Long Range Shooting Handbook
by Ryan Cleckner, $9.99 (Kindle), $22.46 (Softcover),

With Winning in Mind (3rd Edition)
by Lanny Bassham, $9.99 (Kindle), $16.95 (Softcover)

Extreme Rifle Accuracy
by Mike Ratigan, $69.95 (Softcover)

The Book of Rifle Accuracy
by Tony Boyer, $42.50 (Hardcover).

and five more...

Now that experience would be a good read!

Good Lord, “The Houston Warehouse” again.

I know several shooters who participated.

It was an exercise in futility.

The best thing you could do is look at it as an interesting read and understand that shooting a Benchrest Rifle in that extremely controlled environment simply does not translate in the real world.

Jackie, Speedy essentially said the same thing. That was the reason that I mentioned it and posted the video. As long as that article is available new shooters will continue to think that they have discovered the secret to zero groups.

Speedy is well known to me (not on a personal level). It is interesting that he was a visitor to the warehouse.

What I found fascinating about the article was the determination and endeavour of Virgil King and his followers. I do not believe that what took place in the warehouse in any way supports what happens in the field. Although I am impressed with the passion implicit in the exercise.

Did they ever find a way to eliminate the air currents in the Warehouse?
If I remember correctly, they were surprised to find that there were air currents. Then, despite their best efforts, they couldn't get rid of them.
Anyone remember this?
My 78 year old memory isn't working too good today.

Not to state the obvious, but the article in question was published in Precision Shooting Magazine, which contained a treasure trove of good information over the 50+ years it ran. I am in the process of digitally archiving the magazine (see link below). I do update it weekly with new issues. Best Wishes.

Wow, thanks for the flashbacks... I had not seen some of those covers in many years.
I had some boxes lost by a moving company and those were casualties of the loss.
Many thanks for digitizing and sharing them.
