Arthritis in neck, a real PITA !!

Texas Solo

B.S. High Master
I've gotten to a point where I can't get a full image thru the scope. I have to cock my head far to the right. I can't hold that position but a few seconds without severe pain. Even then I only get about 1/2 the correct sight picture.
Went to Dr. He shot x rays and said I have Arthritis in my neck.
I've tried changing my body position, cheek riser height, etc etc. Nothing helps. Going to range today to try shooting off the bench. Maybe I won't have to bend my neck as much as in prone. This sucks.

Anyone have a similar situation?
What did you do about it?

I can't take Ibuprofen due to Kidney disease, can't load up on asprin due to BP meds.

Started shooting BR prone just hurts.

Shoot with a CANT, on purpose.
Gives you more room off the stock.
Sight in PARALLEL @ 100yds. Hits will be off to the RIGHT but that amount will be CONSTANT at longer ranges.
Example:
AR-15 with a 2.6" sight to bore, 6 degrees of CANT but scope plumb.
Hits about 0.3" to the right, or about 0.1 mil @ 100yds, 0.3" @ 600 or about 0.02 mil @ 600,
0.3" right @1000, or about 0.01 mil. Remember to ZERO with the offset @100.

If your scope to bore height is 2 inches, 10 degrees CANT will give you about .34 inches of relief.
Line of sight to bore must be parallel. Scope must be plumb. Offset in inches will be constant.

Yep - Been there DONE that !
Try Celebrex Didn't get much in the way of help. Now trying STEROID shots in neck.
Hope you can get some relief.
I am still chasing the pain relief as well.

Offset rings give the same geometry issue as CANT.
Just make sure scope is plumb, Zero @ 100 but include the offset.
(hits to the right of scope line of sight by amount of offset).
If .34" @ 1000 is a problem, dial the 0.01 mil :)

I have RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis) that essentially cripples the whole body. Last two years have made my shooting far more challenging. My solution...

...a steroid pill and Gabopentin.

Neck fractured in 2 places, back fractured in 4. When my neck gets to hurting and the pain starts going down my shoulder, I use a traction device that hangs over the door and the harness goes around my neck and pulls up. It was like 50 bucks. I use it every 60 days or so and the pain goes away for a while. Cheap fix........way too cheap to ever work....

Biggest problem is that most want an instant fix and someone else to cure the problem. Take a shot or another pill....

I have arthritis in my neck also. I applied to NRA for a variance to shoot off a “wedge “ I built. Took about 6 months but was granted the variance. Been about a year and I can’t shoot off it anymore due to pain . I have reapplied to NRA to shoot off a portable bench I built out of a miter saw stand. Haven’t got approval yet. My family shoots fclass and I want to shoot with them. Good luck. I hope this information helps.

Voltaren is not recommended for anywhere on the spine, read the label.
I've been using Bio-Freeze on my neck and shoulder (rotator cuff tear) gives some relief. I also take 2 full strength Aspirin, to hell with the other meds, when I'm in pain I'll try just about anything.

My wife has had a procedure done to her shoulder called PRP. They take blood from her and centrifuge it until they have some version of stem cells and inject it into the joint that is giving trouble. She has had done several times and had enough healing to avoid shoulder surgery for over 5 years now. I have no idea if it will help in your case but it may be worth asking your DR. I hope for your full recovery.

I can certainly sympathize with you.... I had to give up prone F class shooting this past year. MRI of my neck revealed severe neuroforaminal stenosis at multiple levels as well as central canal stenosis. Shooting from a bench is tolerable most of the time.

Taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is not recommended in individuals with heart disease or those on blood pressure medications.

Voltaren is an NSAID, and cant be used near the neck. Due to the meds I take, I cannot take any nsaids, so tylenol is all I can take.
I have same problem, got some test shots yesterday in the c3,c4, c5 area, if they work I will be having a radio frequency nerve ablation in those arears.
I had same done in lower back and it worked well.
Go see a pain reduction specialist.

I've had arthritis in the C2 & C4 area for several years. Annual steroid injections have kept it tolerable.
