Arkansas Long Range Shooting

I live in Fort Smith, Arkansas and I can't find anywhere to shoot further than 300 yards. I am a member of Old Fort Gun Club and until I got into long range shooting, their 300 yard range was more than enough, but recently I have been able to go to a 1000 yard range out of town a few times and it was a blast. Does anyone know of a place where a guy can go shoot further than just a few hundred yards? It would be nice to get with a group of guys who regularly shoot long range...

I'm not really wanting to get competitive-just have some fun. I used to be big into competitive 3D archery and it pretty much took over my life. Not wanting to slide down that slope again. I actually took up shooting as a replacement for archery because it came to a point where I needed to quit.

To just get out in a field and shoot long distance, you just need to get to know the guys shooting the 300 yard F Class matches at Old Fort. They are a great group of guys and I know at least a couple of them have longer ranges on their farms or friends farms. Several of them travel over here to Tulsa for our 600 and 1,000 yard matches (at least 5 for Saturday's 1,000 yard match). I am the match director in Tulsa. November 14th is our last match of the year and is 600 yards. We will be starting up again next March. We'd love to have you join us.

Here are the competition dates for 600 and 1000 yard matches in 2016 at Camp Robinson (in North Little Rock, AR). There is no practice dates due to the Arkansas National Guard using the ranges for training.

Nov 14-15: RG 13 JCGC* 1000

Dec 5-6: RG 13 JCGC 1000 (Move JCGC SB to Dec 11)

Jan 2-3: RG 13 CAGC* 600

Jan 9-10: RG 13 JCGC 1000

Feb 20-21: RG 13 CAGC 600

Mar 12-13: RG13 JCGC 1000

Mar 19-20: RG13 CAGC 600

Apr 16-17: RG13 JCGC 1000

Apr 23-24: RG13 CAGC XTC MATCH 23RD AND 600 MATCH ON 24TH

May 14-15: RG 13 JCGC 1000

May 21-22: RG13 CAGC State Match XTC/600

June 11-12: RG11-RG13 CAGC 600/JCGC 1000

June 25-26: RG11-RG13 CAGC 600/JCGC 1000

July 9-10: RG13 JCGC 1000

Aug 20-21: RG13 JCGC 1000

Also, Benton Gun Club has a range with distance to 600 yards that is available every day to members and shoots and open to the public 200 and 300 yard prone matches on the 1st Saturday of each month. www.bentongunclub.org

The Memphis Sport Shooters Association (MSSA) holds a prone 600 yard match each month. http://memphis-ssa.net/

There are matches in Oklahoma but I am not familiar with them as I stay pretty much close to Little Rock.

If I can help, please let me know. Depending on my match schedule, I take you to our range as my guest.

I heard that a 600 yard range may open in Texarkana. I don't know dates but will check and post
what I find out.

Nope, nothing down there. I around the Fort Smith area. We have a 300 yard once a month. Your next consistent NRA matches will be in Tulsa or Houston. I haven't been to Tulsa, but Houston (Bayou Rifles) is WELL worth the trip...
 
It's a bit of a poke for you I'd guess, but we have 300 and 600 yard matches every month at the Prince Rifle Range near Pioneer LA....in the NE part of the state. We have shooters that come from all over MS, Malvern and Hot Springs AR....one fellow comes regularly from Haynesville LA, which is in the far NW part of the state.

I don't think those dates are good as those are Mondays and Tuesdays? Do you maybe have an old schedule?

The National Guard has been cancelling a lot of matches at Camp Robinson. I like to shoot there. It is a challenging range.

Carthage is on the schedule I posted. Awesome range.
 
Carthage TX is off US79 just southwest of Shreveport, LA. Matches first weekend of the month - normally Saturday is XTC and Sunday is mid-range. Schedules posted at epcgc.com. Show up at least 30 minutes prior to start time.
