Well, the match is over and Steve Shaw won F-Open in this one, too. A little closer than the AZ LR, but the same result. [br]

Nancy Tompkins
Bob Gustin
Trudy Fay [br]
Please see the post above for the link to Rick Curtis' blog and the exciting conclusion to the 2012 Arizona State Palma Championship.

Congratulations, Steve. WOW!! Two lousy points. Bummer. Good shooting. And I echo the sentiments of gstaylorg - a first and two seconds - impressive.

Like I told Steve, it's a shame because that score usually takes the win. Outstanding shooting by both Steve's.

BTW, how much for a name change? ;D

LOL!! Nancy and the sling shooters are still kickin azz and takin names using aperture sights!!

Seems like there's a lesson here!!

Yes, use a target twice the size and you don't need a scope. ;) [br]
It also helps that Nancy, Bob, Trudie and many others who participated are some of the best in the business.

Great shooting fellas!!
I know I said this once before but, I sure do like reading Rick's match results write up. Reminds me of the old NRA Rifleman's report from Camp Perry when they used really report on what was going on during the championships. Sounded like a real clincher right to the end again in every class.

Intresting to add up Bob's score... would have put him in FOURTH place on the Fclass target in FO..... With a strap on his arm for support, Off Set sights using his left eye and shooting right handed, and a fuzzy black blob/smudge for a aiming mark....most likely shooting a 308 with 155's.... Hmmmm?
Again great shooting Fellas!! Sounds like you all had a great time.

If ya think it's easier with irons and a target twice the size.....take off your scope, install aperture sights and jump in and try it! Then get back to me!!

I shot XTC with an M1a and LR prone with a .300 Win Mag at Camp Pendleton back in the eighties. I know exactly what is required. I have an Eliseo Tube Gun with aperture sights and intended to compete some LR matches but it hurts too much to stay in position. Seems like it was somehow easier thirty years ago.[br]
A fairer comparison would be to examine the scores from the Berger SW Nationals for both sling and F-Class. That tournament attracts top talent in all categories and the comparison looks a little different. But, trying to make a direct comparison between the two is pointless. They are very different. [br]
I would also say; If you think F-Class, either one, is easy, give it a try. You won't think so afterwards. I've seen a few top sling shooters try F-T/R or F-Open and do well, as you might expect. But, they do not dominate. What does that show you? Both categories have fine shooters and the disciplines are different. Not exactly rocket science.

Just go to the Rockey Mountain results and look at Trudey winning FTR. So the target must no matter that much for a top shooter.

Those scores on either target with the specified class equipment are outstanding in any event.

Trudie also placed fourth in the F-Class Nationals shooting F-T/R. And that was after a very unfortunate AD while extracting a hot round that resulted in a miss. Both sling and F-Class share many of the same rules, are shot at the same time (usually), so it is no surprise that a great shooter in one will do very well in the other.
