Arizona State Long Range Championship

Day 1 [br]
Note Dan Bramley's 199-16X in Match 1. So close. Fine shooting, regardless. Nancy, as usual, showing her class. Today is the decider.

Hey there Steve, seems that I had that same misfortune in the first 1000-yard match at the FCNC: 199-16x!! Don't you fret, it's coming.

I have complete confidence that you will, Dan. As you know, it takes all the stars aligning on the right day. This year, I shot the first F-Class clean at Camp Pendleton Range 117, something I thought might never happen. Just have to keep plugging at it.

Freddy Haltom mentioned to me that he had done a 199-18x, too!! Someone needs to do it, and soon. With Freddy's "tied record" at the FCNC, we now have a "NR 4-man team" :)!!

Here are the final F-Class scores. Sorry, no sling scores but Nancy Tompkins won. I hope someone will post them, soon. [br]
Congratulations to Allan Rosenthal for the win and to Christine Harris for an outstanding last match and scaring Allan half to death. ;) [br]
Scott Harris edged past son Devon to take F-TR and preserve his dignity (for a little while longer). ;)

Definitely a rough weekend with challenging wind conditions and a good workout for turrets.
Always fun to shoot with the crowd at Ben Avery.

Thanks much Greg, I was very proud of Devon and the wife. Each of them had the most amazing string where they shot like wizards in difficult conditions. Devon was leading F-TR the entire weekend..little stumble at the end.

Thanks Steve ;D

Yes, Christine shot a great last relay and is consistently doing great. I watched her wait for long periods of time and take that relay apart. She waited about five minutes after shot 19 and shot a pin wheel X on shot 20 ;D.

We were not on the same relay for that one and the conditions were slightly different as they can be at Ben Avery from relay to relay. Needless to say, the relay I shot in tore me a new one :o. I did the best I could with the set of tools in my tool chest. I pulled out everyone one I had for that relay but it got away from me. I was glad to get through it with the little dignity I had left ;). Another good example of understanding that it takes years to learn the wind and that's what keeps us coming back for more.. We can always do better ;)

Christine Harris will be one to watch because she is doing great and deserves a win for how hard her and the Harris family works at this sport. It will come soon for her.. Of coarse, I'll do everything I can to stay ahead of her ;).

Thanks to the Harris family for all their help. Scott's gunsmith work has been flawless and I greatly appreciate all his help ;). He is another one to watch in FTR ;)

Here are the sling results, courtesy Mr. Rick Curtis. Congratulations to Nancy Tompkins and Justin Skaret. Fine shooting.

Same thing happened to me at the nationals. Shot number 19 dropped into the 9 ring and then shot 20, right back into the X ring. Freddy comforted me by telling me his 199 18X story and then I felt much better ;D so close, but not close enough!

The one thing about Nancy is that she has soooo much experience from ranges across the continent (and abroad), that when she gets determined, she will be in the hunt, no matter the venue. Some shooters are local legends on one range...she is a legend e v e r y w h e r e and has been for years. She was a terror 25 years ago and nobody you wanted to face in a shootoff. What's more is that she has 2 daughters that can pull a rabbit out of their hat pretty much at will also (if they want to) ;)

Amen to that ;D she's an awesome person too ;)
