2013 Arizona Long Range State Championship this weekend

David Gosnell slammed F-Open with 995-53X! Nik Montin took F-TR. Rick will probably post complete scores later. Congratulations to all winners.

A big thanks to Rick Curtis and Mid Tompkins for putting on a great event.

It was a fun weekend with great competition and good friends.

Congratulations to the winners.

The 2013 Az Long Range Championship is in the history books! Congratulations to David Gosnell who put together an outstanding five down agg performance in F-Open, in conditions I might add, to post the overall high score in the match. Nikolas Montin hung in there and reeled in Steve Lockwood to grab the F-TR Championship. Canadian Ken Nelson took the Any Rifle victory with two days of steady shooting. Congrats to all the winners. Full results below and thanks to everyone who made the journey to shoot with us. Sorry about the liquid sunshine but I hope you had a good time nonetheless!

See you next month at the Palma Championships

Some noteworthy F-Class highlights of the 2013 Arizona Long Range: [br]
Niklas Montin's outstanding F-TR 199-12X in the last match. Nik was only bettered by two F-Open shooters who shot clean and Nik had more X's than either. Great shooting, Nik! [br]
David Gosnell's superlative agg of 995-53X. For the mathematically challenged, that is 99.5% with 53% X count. ;) David also shot an excellent 200-14X first match, Sunday. [br]
All of this was done in cool to cold, damp to raining, and windy conditions. Great shooting and a fine match, beautiful awards and excellent competition. Thanks to Rick Curtis and Mid Tompkins and all other personnel for a memorable event. [br]
And, there is more to come this year. [br]

Rick Looks like you took Palma Rifle Honors... Woot woot!!! Nice shooting. And look at Phil Hayes on day two, that is a nice come back fromday one with a good X count. And Did i see where son Ryan Hayes is shooting out of a sling this year too.. and beatin up on some old guys... the shame the shame of it.

Justin Skarett... Holdin hard right there the whole way. He is very consistant... consistantly good. Good Job Master Sgt.

What was the weather like on sunday??

Russ,

The fruit did not fall far from the tree with Ryan. He is rapidly developing into a good prone shooter. Phil is looking to get him into a palma gun with the idea of making the all AZ team that will form for the Nat Fullbore Champs at Perry next year!

The weather on Sunday gave us very cool temps, low light, brief periods of light misting rain, and almost no visible mirage. Though the wind was nowhere near the velocities, 9-11 minutes on the palma guns, we had Saturday, there were some nearly invisible letoffs that had many on the line scratching their heads!

Here are the four division winners in this years AZ. State Long Range Championship. From Right to left; Ken Nelson- Any Rifle Champion, David Gosnell- F-Open Champion, Nikolas Montin- F-TR Champion and Rick Curtis- Palma Rifle Champion. This is the first year in many years that trophy plaques have been awarded and I am already assembling the plaques for our upcoming State 600 yard Championships this coming Friday, the State High Power Championship on Saturday and the Palma Championships Dec 6-8. As funds become available it is my sincere hope that in the very near future we can award plaques to the top three finishers in their respective divisions. Lets face it, no one will get rich competing in high power so we are left with personal satisfaction, peer recognition and now, a nice keepsake to mark the achievement.

Thanks Rick and team for the match!
- I will definitely make it back again, but the drive from San Jose CA was a little longer than I had hoped. We got back first 5am Monday morning, leaving directly after the match at 4pm Sunday.

The weather looked very grim at first, but ended up being being just a little brisk. (Day2 photo)

- After day 1, I was pretty sure that I couldn't catch Steve L - He was racking up X at an impressive rate. Even after my last series, I was still 2 behind him.

I'd have paid your beer tab at Flemings to see that. ;) Philip Kelley's current record is 200-5X. You would have shattered it.

Hope all made it home safe and sound. David I know you probably drove all night. I'm very curious which rifle you were shooting.

Good job. I'll keep praying for better wind reading skills. Santa cancel that new gun order please.
Glad everyone had a great time and very good shooting.
