Are music ear buds illegal to use during a match

I would say yes under the no electronic devices rule.

Now if the were in your custom hearing protection and were not plugged in you'd probably be ok.

Can't be connected by wireless either. I believe I heard the guys shooting for 21st Century discussing that one at Camp Perry. Team headset systems have to be wired (so they can actually tell who is on the channel I'd guess)

What brought up that rule anyways? Did someone get caught coaching via head phones or cell phones???

What about the electronic ear muffs?

The rule is tied to getting coaching while shooting... So anything that allows you to COMMUNICATE with another shooter for help/coaching is not allowed.

Electronic ear muffs are designed to protect your hearing but still allow some ease of hearing surrounding sounds when loud noises do not occur. No one is directly communicating with you to help you.

BUT the product lets you hear the scorer easier which is beneficial to your ability to know your score.

For Team shooting, wireless comms would be legal but open to anyone wanting to listen in which is not always good thing.

so ear buds listening to music plugged into an ipod would be legal. But plugged into a phone would not be???

They shouldn't be illegal if used to play Zepplin, AC/DC, or Van Halen. However, other choices might elicit a disciplinary response from a line official.

My music might end up killing most line officials. AC/DC for starters. Only gets harder or worse depending on their tastes. and by Van Halen, you do mean the first few albums.....

What part of "3.22 Electronic Devices- Electronic devices such as radios, tape recorders, or any other type of sound production or communication systems are prohibited forward of the ready line, including the pits, except those necessary for range control." or "3.22 Electronic Devices—Competitors are responsible to ensure all electronic communications and audio devices in their possession forward of the ready line are silenced and communications disabled." don't you understand?

I guess that's why I like club matches better than the stuffy rule filled big matches.

The problem is the local club matches do not follow the rules so now a guy like ARIZONA_F_CLASS goes to a stuffy rule filled match and does not know what the rules are since his local club match does not run the match by rules they are suppose to follow because they do not want to upset the local boys. Not right in my opinion, but the way it is done. Rules are rules for a reason, not just to keep you from listening to music. Basically every rule is added when it is determined that cheating can be done and we the non cheaters do not want to be beat by cheaters. I had been on NBRSA to make all electronic devices including electronic ear muffs (you can make them receive electronic transmissions) illegal at the firing line and I was not well received on this, but with over sixty people watching the firing line thru scopes at Super Shoot, how do you know they are not coaching someone on the line? I have seen all kinds of cheating in my 29 years as a range officer for short range br. And using electronics to cheat would not surprise me.

You should consider changing your Username to "ARIZONA_CLUB_MATCH" as well....

......only funning ya !.!.!

I see it as a discrimination against the hearing impaired …… I use ear muffs with a 50 db gain, so i can hear the range commands. I would also consider it a safety issue to be with out them……… Jim O'Hara
