Are drones for hunting like sonar for fishing

Possibly good hunting by the guides -not you.

According to P&Y, B&C it is considered hunting. :o

I am not a trophy hunter. I hunt for meat only. If this flying saucer helps put food on the table then I'm all for it. Why let the guys with all the money using 50 guides have all the fun?

I would compare it to road hunters that hall ass around a GMU on the highways and back roads glassing for an animal only to see one, jump out a mile down the road so they don't spook it, then come back and bag it. Same basic principle to me. Bunch of hunters that don't like to put any effort into hunting so find the laziest way they can of finding game. Hell to be honest I loved hiking through the woods with my rifle more then anything else I have done in the outdoors. Didn't matter to me that I didn't see anything. It was the opportunity to take a game animal should I find one that made my hunt.

I'll say this on the matter of hunting, when I was first introduced to it by my grandfather it wasn't a sport... He - we didn't do it so we could "Smoke a monster" And I'll tell you something else we didn't do , we didn't high five each other and hoot and holler while we were back slapping each other over the animal we had just harvested .
That act in itself would have warranted a swift kick in the pants for being disrespectful.
The majority of people these days don't actually in the true sense of the word hunt , and they certainly don't respect the land their on or the game they pursue .

I agree with the position that if you are that lazy whereby you cannot stalk an animal and need some type of flying contraption to get you the Intel you need in order to harvest it then you should relegate your hunting endeavors to a video game ....
Hunting has served to provide both meat and sport. Many forms of hunting are for sport only. Using technology doesn't make one lazy. Park your car or truck for a week, and ride a horse, or walk. After all, sitting on that seat and turning the steering wheel makes one lazy ;D

Lol I get what your saying but let's call a spade a spade.. Out on the farm we have in the last couple years in particular had a terrible coyote problem , so we made some blinds and I drug out the electric caller...

Would I call that hunting? Not exactly , in my mind I'm sitting in a blind using a call to attract them to a known range and then I plant Mr Coyote. To me that is shooting and also predator control..
No different than when we thin the Prairie dog herd , that is shooting.

I'm all for technological enhancements be it in the workplace or in one's personal life (Yes I enjoy my power steering lol) but as I said , let's call it what it is and using some contraption like a drone in my mind is not fair chase and therefore wouldn't define that as hunting.

Let's include tree stands into the conversation. Is that unfair advantage "fair chase"? And the many guide services that use aircraft to locate animals for their clients prior to the hunt? How about the hounds used to tree mountain lions? Fair chase? I fully understand what you are saying, and completely agree, however, I have no problem with the use of modern technology to help a hunter have a successful hunt, to go along with a great time at the campfire :)

Unless your in a loincloth and bashing games head in with a stone axe, you're cheating!

Why do states and provinces ban any hunting on the same day one is flown into camp? It simply is not fair chase...end of story.....no gray area in play here. Do what you want....legal or otherwise. If you are a true sportsman, you will find your biggest trophies are the ones YOU worked hardest to get while playing with-in the rules.

This should prove to be interesting ::) And what exactly are the rules? AFAIK, each state has it's own hunting rules. Let's mandate one universal rule nationwide ??? lever action rifles only, 30-30 cartridge, open sights only, no ATV or truck to recover the animal you need to take back to camp 5 miles away, no GPS unit or cell phone, etc, etc. There… Now we can all be friends, and true sportsman ;D

LMAO ;D the t-shirt is actually the "I can't breathe" version ;D

I understand that Obama is a big drone fan. I guess it's ok to use him as a shining example of ethics and correct interpretation of the constitution too.

I have to say some of my best hunting moments were when all I came home with were cuts and bruises and the visual memory of the hunt (my BC sheep hunt comes to mind)

He is actually a big proponent of using them to find and kill terrorists outside the U.S.

I don't like some of the guy's politics, but I think that that policy is dead freaking on.

I don't think so. To me the feeling I get from his post is a poke at all of the guys here who do not want to see it easier. Most on this forum have talked about how they do not have the time to do whatever and there is a common understanding with that statement. So making it easier to find them does not mean they will be harvested. A hunter will still need to close with and still have them there to shoot. Then to actually shoot the darn thing.

I have hunted with the group whose moto is "hump, hump, and hump". I only remembers one and I did not shoot it I let him go. Granted there is back story to that but none of the other deer Ä« remember.

My fondest deer was one that was shot one min into day two of deer season. Just a gravy head shot. She must not have heard us get into position in the dark. I tapped my brother to let him know it was open and he grabbed my boot then pointed. Hay there is a deer head. I quickly ranged it and ran the numbers then whisper them to him. We both set our scopes and I fired. Her head instantly went away a second came up and he fired. We shot four deer in less than three seconds in the first minute or two of the first Saturday of deer season.

The stats were maybe 250yds up a big hill to our shooting spot from the car. The deer almost all at 400yds with a 10 deg down angle or so. Wind was none existent. All of this happened less than 300 yds from the road. We were home and had the deer cut for jerky and dog food by 12. The dog food was ground, cooked, mixed, and in the freezer by 5pm.
Read me like a book :) As I stated earlier, most of my hunting is performed with a longbow, but, I don't condemn those who choose a compound bow, crossbow, nor a firearm. Am I at a disadvantage using such primitive equipment? Hell no ;) BTW: I also use cedar shafts with the old ACE and STOS broad heads 8) No VLDs for me. I don't like the taste of blood shot meat ;D

My plan for any drones I come across flying over any of my properties is to shoot them down on sight. That includes delivery drones unless they are clearly marked "Sinclair" or the like. Eventually, these companies will use them to collect and keep private data about you and your property that they can then sell to others. Back in the day, nobody ever imagined all the private data kept on file about your internet browsing habits, or your movements/location via your cell phone. But in today's world privacy is an option and nothing you do is private any longer >:(. Sorry for the rant.

O, The gun toting drones get a pass. I feel that is discrimination

That's it............... I'm convinced.
Fish finders are immoral, evil, un-sportsman like and anyone that ever even saw one should be strung up for cheating.
I have no use for a drone for hunting.
Can't claim any of my best hunting trips ended empty handed.
