Are all Rem. short actions created equal?

I have a short action chambered in a 223. Is this the same action that is used for the 243, 308 etc.? (with the exception of the different bolt and box of course) It looks to me like it would just require a different bolt and internal box mag to make the change over to the .473 cartridge head.

I would like to make a small, compact, light weight 6CX. I might just be better off buying a used short action with a .473 bolt face and re-barreling it after looking at the price of new bolts for Remington's.

Feed rails & rear receiver ejection port scallop & as mentioned mag box/spring/follower & bolt breech face are the only differences in actions.

That's what I was wondering... :-\ Even with a bolt swap, It probably wouldn't feed from a box mag reliably.

Never mind on that project then. Oh well. Learn something new every day. Thanks for the knowledgeable reply ;)

Open your existing bolt face to .480"diameter & fit it for the extractor of choice.
(SAKO extractor would not be my consideration)
Feed rails & rear receiver ring ejection scallop modifications take less than 10 minutes in a milling machine.

The early 60's 700's had the same feed rails for 222 Mag and 308. Seems like it shouldn't work but I've had both receiver's side by side and measured them and they were exactly the same.
