archery forum like Accurate Shooter?

Jon you ever shoot at Sugar Hill? We use to get a lot of traditional shooters. I to got bored like the earlier post and decided to give shooting a try. I have been learning as much as I can and building my arsenal....

I'll keep this in mind, Ray. I don't have any archery gear yet. Thinking about the Hoyt 'Tribute', because I could shoot fingers on occasion, or if I lost my release during a zombie apocalypse.

Summer is probably when I'll take the plunge; we're fixin' to move to a house that would have plenty of room outside for an archery range.

I haven't looked at a Tribute but if it's a fingers bow your axle to axle should be pretty good. Should be a smooth long lasting bow...

The Pro Edge replaced my Alpha Elite and that was a new for 2012 bow so they don't stay on top of the heap for long.. I like 35 inch or longer bows with 7 inch brace height or longer. Sounds like you have a good bit of time to find the one that fits just right

The last bow I had (circa 1992) was a Pearson XL with ATA of 48". Draw weight of about 70 lbs, maybe a bit more with my draw length of 31.5". A neighbor buddy (who I think has won the Calif. state championship a couple times) had a bow press, made his own strings, arrows, etc. Spent hours shooting through paper to get his tune. Taught me how to straighten aluminum arrows, and how to spin them on fingernails to gauge whether they'd gone crooked. Lots of fun.

One time, after seeing one of the wretched Rambo sequels, wherein Stallone ditches his guns for his compound bow and grenade arrows, neighbor buddy and I wondered if arrows really made the sound that they had in the movie. (Hollywood is a stickler for exactitude right? HA!)

So, at a field archery range is this area, one of the target butts (44y maybe) is adacent to a very thick stand of trees. Neighbor could easily put all four shots into a Mrs. Fields' cookie at that range, so I stood behind the trees and he nocked an arrow and let fly. Who knew, but holy smoke, it did make a Zzzzzing spinning sound as it came flying in. Cool.

The only 'Robin Hood' I ever shot was well out of the spot. I guess I was consistent in my inaccuracy that day. One time after a field archery tourney, in which I dropped 9 arrows ( :'( ) we rolled into the driveway where we had all met at a friend's house. This guy (not my neighbor) grabbed his gear, and then took a fistful of arrows out of his quiver and let them fall to the ground. I said "What are you doing?" He replied "I wanted to see what it feels like to drop 9 arrows". On my better days, I could outshoot him, but he seemed to forget that. >:(

A friend and I tried making some film for a season and during this spell I took a successful head shot on a doe to get footage. The audio picked up the flight of the feathered arrow and it was a shrill scream all the way to the deer. Pretty cool !! We did not hear that when we took the shot and was amazed when we played it back.

"I wanted to see what it feels like to drop 9 arrows"

Ha ha hah, Sounds like the folks I used to shoot with..We always had fun and sometimes shot good..

I love archery for hunting and just shooting targets. This thread reminds me that I need to start shooting more. Just might have to go to one of the local indoor ranges when I get back home. Could shoot at my house, but it's too dang cold outside!

I've had Bear, Bowtech, and Hoyt Maxxis. My current bow is a Rytera Seeker 365.
My Rytera is so adjustable it's insane. Has every bell and whistle including press free adjustable length of pull and an adjustable brace height! And yes I typed the last part of that sentence correctly. 340 IBO. I have it set to fit me so well that the thing basically shoots itself. Check it out in the video link below.

My Hoyt Alpha Elite was advertised to shoot 315-320 I think, I used GoldTip 400 arrows and got 335 fps..Smooth bow for the speed

Archery Learning Center all the way.

Archerytalk was really good back about eight or nine years ago. Pros would still post there and it was a big pissing contest like it is now. I used to pot on AT all the time but I got sick of it. Now I just buy and sell and there and post occasionally.

ALC is good. They don't put up with crap and there are a number of pro archers who chime in from time to tiem not to mention George Ryles is on there quite often.

Too me, its the only forum that is close to this one in class and information.

I just recently found huntingpa.com. It looks like a great site; lots of forums. It is not a strictly archery forum but has archery on it along with a lot of other forums. A lot of members and from what I saw of it so far it is a great forum. Matt

Thanks to all who've replied. I've started trolling a couple of them, have registered at Archery Talk -- just FYI for any of you who want to put me on your 'ignore' list there too :) -- and it also appears I have just found myself a gently-used bow, maybe only shot after church on Sundays...

So it begins (again). But it's still less expensive than boating, equestrian, drugs, and divorce.

Ray, I might need one of those damn presses now! (I'm fixin' to buy a Hoyt Tribute, and your press would match.)

Actually Archery is rather cheap after one purchases all the necessities..

Lessee, Fletching tool, bow square, arrows, points, fletching , nocks, wax, bow case, etc..

Our local club has an arrow cutoff tool and a bow press for members to use..

BOhio, I could finish one by Saturday. There pretty slick, you can change out the fingers and put the string jig in there and do strings under tension like the pro's..Quick pin adjustment to allow fast movement to your bows limbs...there solid also

vt, you are right. NFAA was the best. I shot at one range and got involved in the maintenance aspect. Very few volunteers and too much work was the death knell for that range. Land value was another nail in its coffin. I still shoot but there are very few ranges that provide this service. Still hunt though.

Cheers,

Phil aka tazzman

Jennings Unistar @ 65 lbs !! 190FPS!! WOOHOO!!
That' shooting 2117 telephone poles!

Archery is a cool topic and I am sure there will be demand for a forum that discuses the accuracy and shooting aspect of it like this one does with guns.

It is extremely different then guns though so perhaps under a separate www.com site.

Archery and guns have a lot in common . Think of the pound of the bow being case size Spining of the arrow and the length being the powder charge and the point weight being the bullet. All three of the above must work together to put a arrow asleep, We do the same when making a gun shoot, Larry
