No, there is not anyone here that uses a arbor press to hand load with. It is a dead horse, old technology and there isn't much discussed about it here. But I kindly did you a search.

Keep in mind you can't use an arbor press to FL resize cases. I could be wrong about that, but an arbor press lacks the leverage for FL resizing. I wouldn't risk breaking my arbor press on the task.

Well, the reason I ask is that I will have a custom build being made for me in the next 6 months. It is in .260 Remington. I have a Dillon 550B press for straight walled cartridges. This will be my first trip into rifle cartridges. So wanting the best I can afford I saw where many used hand dies and arbor presses. So I thought it would be a better option than buying a single stage press and accessories. No, I understand I don't have to buy another press but was going to anyway. Any opinions on presses and dies is appreciated. Thanks

Even if you use hand dies you still need a good single stage press to full length size. At some point the case will get tight in the chamber. You can only neck size with a hand die. I feel the best set up is a redding boss II, forster coax, or older pre-china rock chucker with a full length bushing die and an arbor press and hand die with micrometer top to seat the bullet. Harrell's and k&M are great arbor presses. Depending on the caliber Harrell's may offer a full length bushing die, if not get a redding s-die.

I have a Harrell's combo press that has both threads for a 7/8x14 die and an arbor press on the side. I also use a regular arbor press. I neck size mostly and use a bump die as required for most calibers. The Harrell's is not really beefy and for some of the rifles that I load fairly hot I don't use it for sizing. A lot of my rifles are old single shots that I load to 35,000 to 40,000 psi and it is rare that I need to f/l size. I am sure my 250 Savage cases have been loaded a dozen times and still slide in the chamber of my Rolling Block easy. For seating purposes with a conventional press, take a look at the Vickerman seating dies. They are slicker than sliced bread. Even though the current school of thought is to f/l size every time, many benchrest groups of less than 1/4" were shot using neck dies and arbor presses! My favorite f/l dies are the Redding Bushing dies. Just my 2 cents. Tom

Well..as a matter of fact..I do! I bring it out to range with me. I salvaged a small press about 12" tall, I turned up a bottom plate that is counterbored for a .577 Snider case head. I use only for bullet seating.
The cases were turned up from solid brass round stock & are a very close slip fit in chamber..no re-sizing is needed. That case head is so wide..no die is needed.

I've been reloading for years but just started using an arbor press for 6PPC. Ease of loading on the range is a big advantage.

Is there a resource, book, website that explains what the steps are for use of an arbor press and such? I hear and read about neck sizing, bump sizing, the use of only neck size and when to full length size. To say the least it is confusing to me as I only have reloaded for handguns. Since this is my first rifle attempt I would like to do it more for BR type shooting that just shooting targets at the local range. I just need more info to allow me to make good choices. TNX
