AR15 lower parts kit

Are there any differences in AR15 lower parts kits (in terms of quality) or is a lower parts kit, a lower parts kit? Mostly interested in classic kits, to finish a service rifle build.

I think if they say mil spec they at least meet the minimum std. i use the cmmg kits. Theyre cheap enough and ive never had an issue with the parts

The ones I have used I can not see a difference. Where you can see a difference is in the triggers. Currently I have been using PSA lower kits and what is surprising is some triggers are smooth and others are horrible. The smooth ones are not Geissele triggers or even ALG but not too bad. The bad ones I just stone a little and use grease on them and they are ok. With a little stoning they are better than a standard M-16a2 trigger.

agree with the above... most lower parts seem to all be the same, the $$ should go to the trigger in a lower. (geissele trigger)

I did install a curved trigger guard under the trigger vs the straight normal aluminum trigger guard, thats more comfortable to the touch when slow firing and waiting for shots.

a phase 5 extended bolt release has been awesome since im right handed too... but thats all ive done on a lower.

the rest is all a lower kit from midwayusa

I realize that you didn't ask about triggers but in case you're interested, the best bang for the buck in triggers that I have found are Velocity triggers. These are manufactured by a gentleman that worked for Timney many years and also another company that I don't remember. The Velocity is every bit as good, or better than a Timney, for less money.

Jay, if you are using this for service rifle I am sure you are bound by some constrictions. A Rock River National Match trigger with JP yellow springs is an excellent 2 stage. As said above, Ive made some very nice triggers out of standard mil-spec with light stoning and the same JP springs.

After buying several, I'll buck the trend and say yes, there is a difference. My latest one was a cheapo and I was disappointed in the fit and finish of the parts. I don't remember brands but the one I got I liked had the parts in bubbles in a plastic sheet sorted out, and the cheap one combined in a baggie. The cheapo worked but especially with the detents things were not as smooth as with kits costing just a few bucks more.

+1. There's meets mil-spec (barely); there's meets and exceeds mil-spec; and then there's just works fine. Not that I can readily test heat treat at home; nor take the time.to qualify a vendor; I'm happy with White Oak; Monmouth; Rock River; ... LPKs. One without mil trigger is nice; but mil triggers are so cheap I do love to hack at them and practice the fine stone work. (Though at this point hack is the preliminary term).

As far as triggers go, I like single stage but most shoot 2 stage. I shoot Velocity triggers, very reasonable and no better single stage out there. The guy used to work for Timney for many years. I like the 3lb. The also come in 4 and 5lb. Barry.

Jay,

I'll echo the previous recommendations for CMMG and Spikes Tactical. I've used dozens and dozens of each and have never had a problem with fit or finish. I can't say that about many others.

quit buying lower parts kits long ago. have a box full of parts left over from them. usually replace most of the parts i used with upgrades.

now i buy springs and detents by the dozen. the takedown pins i prefer. ambi safeties like the badass. better bolt catches and mag releases. Geissele triggers and i really like the jp silent capture buffer assembly.

why not get what you want from the start instead of buying junk and upgrading?

I am using the rra single stag,jp springs, and a jobobs pist grip bolt The pistol grip bolt takes the creep out. This is a nice tripper set up for very little money.
