6.5 Grendel vs. 6 mm AR

I am in the middle of collecting parts for an accurate AR-15. I have all the parts for my lower and am initially completing the rifle with a varmint upper from Rock River. My long term plan is to add an upper in 6.5 Grendel or 6 mm AR. What advise can you offer in terms of cartridge choice?

Most of my shooting occurs inside 200 yards. I am only a target shooter.

Thanks for your advice,

Cort

There is a lot better slection of short range bullets for the 6mm, but if it comes throated for the heavies that may be a moot point. Both are a great round...anything based on that cartridge will shoot, and of course it's based on the 220R/7.62x39 family which makes it a close cousin of a PPC... on steroids

I chose the 6mmARturbo40º over the Grendel. You can't push a 123gr 6.5 as fast as you can a 105gr 6 so the advantage of a higher BC is lost.

I was very happy with it out to 600yds. Whitley builds hammers.

How far is he pushing the shoulder forward on the Turbo, and is it the same amount as on the 40? Thanks--Mike

I want to thank you for your replies. I also did a search of the forum. This question has been addressed before so I really didn't need to ask it. Lots of good comments are already out there.

gunsandgunsmithing, go to www.6mmar.com. Robert describes the change from the 6 AR to the Turbo and then to the Turbo Improved.
