AR15 Chambered in 30BR??

I've been thinking about building an AR15 chambered in 30BR. Is this possible? Any barrel makers (Bartlein, Kreiger, Hart, etc.) out there that would do it? What bolt would be required?

Any information would be appreciated.

I don't mean to be rude but if you need to ask these questions I would strongly suggest you have it built . Too many variables , it's not like an Ar15 that's been around for 40+ years . It will need to be fabricated ( barrel , magazine ) bolt and action would be based on the AR10 platform .
Gas port dia and location would also have to be tested . Expect to pay $$$
Why not go to the 30AR by Remington ?
If you could find a Rem 30AR , I would think it would be easier to convert .

It might have been done already. I know the 6.5 Grendel was necked up to .308 and the 6mm BR was done along with a few others.

Here's a good place to start. 6mmar.com

I have a 6.5brx upper. It had a custom barrel extension and bolt. They are not made by the manufacturer mine is from any longer. There are a group of AR wildcat guys that have Oly bolts and extensions. I think there is another manufacturer out there but I cannot recall their name. I'd go for a PPC based cartridge because shoving a .473 case head in an AR isn't the most supported corner of the market.

This was a bolt and extension made for but sold by:

http://www.ar15performance.com/

It was named 'The Super Bolt' and had a .473 bolt face for short .308 case cartridges such as the 6mm BR. It is no longer offered and hasn't been for a few years. I'm sure that someone probably hotrodded this setup and ruptured the case and bolt, effectively putting an end to a somehwat fun project. I used the 6.8 SPC magazines with some slight modifications.

Lacking any of the above, I certainly would try the .30AR and be happy. You might have to have it made for you but that's certainly doable these days.

Best.

I actually still have mine. It's fun. I must have missed an auto correct error that corrected to "had".

I have a 6 brx as well. Bolt and barrel extension from arperformance.
Works great.
You can probably come across one if you post a want to buy on ar15. C o m

Alot of people that bought them are 6.8spc fans and the 6.8spc site has one up for sale every once and a while. That's where I got mine. A friend got one if his Grendel barrels with the big 800series bolt. It's a strong high quality setup with out a doubt.

Check with a guy named Bruce Finnegan on Facebook in the 7mm Valkyrie AR group, that could possibly be converted to 30br. Mags and bolt should be the same as the 7var is based on an x47 case.

I designed my 30 Major in 2007 to make "major power factor" in USPSA 3 gun competitions, from an AR15 based rifle. At the time, there were no aftermarket big barrel extensions and bolts. People were already trying it with a Grendel but bolt life was poor. I simply necked it up the 30 on the premise that you can drive a 30 cal bullet of a given weight to the same or greater speed, as the same weight 6.5 bullet but with less pressure and better bolt life. These are facts and the 30 Major works great! The USAMU took it and kicked butt with it after taking the design and renaming it a 30 Gremlin.

I have different reamer configurations and I currently campaign the cartridge in BR. The cartridge is the same one that holds the current world record for smallest 5 shot group at 100 yards of .0077"! It shoots very well, I'd say. --Mike Ezell

I have a number of AR 15 uppers with the BR case as their base, 338 BRX being the biggest, other than the 450 Bushmaster which shares the same bolt face, they all share the same lower, from 223 to 450BM super & subsonic

They all have 20" barrels & rifle length systems with adjustable gas blocks.

It is possible to overpower the 450 BM bolt so you need to be careful.

Performance is outstanding & makes the 223 performance look exactly like what it is...

338 BRX & a couple of mates :)

I have a friend that is a licensed NFA manufacturer that has experimented with all sorts of configurations. He hunts hogs suppressed subsonic with night vision with a 50 Beowulf cartridge using a 750gr. or so cast bullet I think. I am pretty sure in the realm of AR's pretty much anything can be had.

Mike Ezell is another that would be quite familiar with what you want and probably is already tooled for it. Barrels shouldn't be a problem as there are many people that chamber and build AR barrels of many different profiles.
