AR10 Brand Recommendations?

That's kinda like asking "what's the best girl to marry?"

There are any number of really nice AR-10's out there. I have a LaRue OBR which is easily my favorite 7.62 battle rifle. But it's certainly not the only good AR-10 you might consider.

You can get a decent trigger on the AR platform, but getting down to 1lb is going to be a stretch.

You can get a two-stage trigger with a one and a half pound second stage but getting an AR trigger in any platform down to 1 1/2 pounds is probably downright dangerous and unreliable

Years ago, I treated myself to an Armalite built by GA Precision. I shot it a bunch but it was very finicky as to which load shot well in it. My son liked to shoot it so I bought a DPMS SASS in 308 so we could shoot together. The SASS shot just about anything well, wasn’t finicky and the magazine system was flawless. I got so tired of working with the GAP and it’s issues that I traded it for a bench gun and kept the DPMS.

Build you own. A quality aftermarket barrel and a crisp 2-4 lb trigger can make almost any ar-platform look like a stud.

I grabbed a heavy walled matched upper lower build kit from cdnn and put a cmc 2.5lb trigger and a custom 24" mcgowen 6.5 creed barrel. Its average 5 shot group size is around .5" at 100 yards.

You're probably not going to get that kind of performance unless you spend a ton more than I did on a completed rifle.

Get a quality matched upper and lower receivers (stiffer and heavier the better I think but only have built 1 from scratch so can't say for sure) and piece it together.

What Jager says. I've got a first gen DPMS in 308 with a 24 inch heavy barrel. It is a heavy gun. Shoots custom loads with 168 grain bullets driven by Varget into 1/2-3/4 MOA groups. Only thing I changed was the trigger. I've shot it on steel out to 750 yards. Lots of fun. My brother built a 6.5 CM. It shoots about the same as my old gen 1. Both good enough for our purposes. Pay your money, take your chances knowing that more money does not necessarily buy you the attributes you are looking for.

if you want to err on the durability side of accuracydurability then get a KAC

if you want to err on the accuracy side of accuracy/durability get a Gap10

If you want to save a lot of money and not larp around like you’re gonna use a 14 pound large frame AR for an imaginary shtf scenario have compass lake build you an upper on an Aero m5 receiver and handguard and toss a trigger in an aero lower, saving yourself thousands
