AR10 - 308

I have a NOVESKE AR10 in 7.62. This ha to be a stupid question. Yesterday I was shooting German DAC (Silver BULLET) bulk NATO ammo and shooting sub 1” groups at 100 with ease. I then decided to shoot up some leftover 168 gr Gold Metal Match and the impacts were all over the place...what gives?

If you measured the velocities of all the rounds you shot, you would have known the answer, and would also have known what velocity you need to try and get with reloads or shelf ammo Each barrel has its own sweet spots (nodes) in terms of velocity for accuracy.

You can also throw in twist rate of barrel - was the first batch of ammo you shot considerably lighter/heavier than the 168gr Gold Medal Match ammo?

I’m talking about about strikes 10” apart I thought maybe it was difference between 7.62 and 308 or my adjustable gas setting was affecting it somehow.. any of my NATO stamped ammo shoots fine... I had it on a Seb bench rest so no problem with getting tired...

Usually FGMM shoots good in bolt and gas guns. But try cleaning the barrel and a different gas setting.

Maybe the scope or scope mount is loose. Maybe the scope took a poop.

how can the gas setting effect accuracy?

Improper gas setting can allow the release of to much gas into the cycle operating system , reducing velocity and POI . Or adjusted in the opposite direction can cause to high a gas level out the barrel , taking the round out of node . A similar effect to changing lots of powder .

I, guessing they are 147s...it’s a well known brand and hard to get now....use to be sought after at bulk buys mil surplus
