AR Triggers

timeout

Wrong forum, I know. Also know there are at least a few knowledgeable AR guys on here. I'm building an AR and am pretty clueless about them. This will be primarily a SHTF gun. Ok, an occasional varmint and target session also. I hate lousy triggers on any firearm. I'm thinking Timney. I don't need competition match level. I'm also thinking single stage so as not to screw up my style when shooting my other firearms. Any suggestions on brand, single stage or dual stage appreciated.

Try a Velocity Trigger. Single stage drop in. They run about $150. You can order the pull weight you want drop it in and you're good to go. I use a 4# and have been quite happy with it.
I also run a TacCon in my SHTF rifle. A little pricey at the $400 mark but has some great features.

I like POF drop in for single stage, Geissele G2S for 2 stage. The ALG line are excellent milspec triggers that are very reliable (also made by Geissele). I like my jewel 2 stage for my service rifle though.

Wait there are trigger manufacturers that aren't giessele? They have a flavor for whatever your preferred shooting type is. I love their SG3 for run and gun. That trigger is so damned fast you can get splits as fast or faster than full auto.

I'm running a Geissele SSA-E in my one and only AR. It's not like I'm some kind of expert but I found a shop that had a bunch of triggers set up in cut out lowers so they could be tested. The SSA-E was by far the best one for my tastes so I purchased it.

AGL enhanced is a pretty good trigger for the money paired with a set of lighter springs. You get a lighter pull and a crisp clean trigger with no creep for about $70-$80 I've put this set up on 3 or 4 AR's and been very happy with it.

I put a Timney 3 lb single stage in a gun I put together and am very happy with it

Another +1 for Geissele. Look at their SSA triggers which have a two-stage, fixed 4.5# weight. In run a Geissele hi-speed NM trigger in my NRA/CMP service rifle and an SSA in my SHTF carbine.

Geissele is also having a 20% sale this weekend. SSA triggers are $192 with free shipping.

I've got a Geissele SSA-E in one of my ARs, and really like it. I have an older JP Enterprise trigger in another, and it's also quite nice. The JP does take some time to install and adjust; I had to trim my disconnector a bit to get proper reset, and I had to file a bit off the back of the trigger shelf to get the safety to operate properly. All of this is covered in the installation video that accompanies the trigger, but it's not stricly speaking a 'drop-in' trigger.

This will be primarily a SHTF gun

For your stated usage, I tend to think milspec for reliability. Bill Springfield can make it excellent for a modest fee http://www.triggerwork.net/

For varmint/target primary applications I tend to favor Timney. The RRA two stage trigger has had a history of issues for some. Mine has always been fine, but both my Timney and Bill Springfield modified are better.

Any of the top companies make great aftermarket triggers. Even a cheap 2 stage trigger is an good upgrade from a standard trigger.
I always liked timney until i got a velocity trigger
+1 on a timney or velocity
